Chapter 1
"I'll be there, hun. See you... love you."
I hang up the phone with an almost-silent click and turn around. Jade lay perfectly still in the bed, breathing steadily.
"Perfect," I say under my breath. I tip-toe to my closet and pull a black dress off it's hanger. I slip it over my head- I had already stripped down to a bra and underwear. I opened my jewelry box and reach in to take out a beautiful diamond necklace with a silver gun dangling from the chain. I draped it around my neck and gaze at the mirror, admiring the gifts given to me years ago.
Almost to the front door, I tug a pair of black heels onto my feet as I head out.
It was pitch-black depsite the faint glow of a full moon. As I walk down the street, I glance down to my wrist. It's 1 AM, one hour past the excitment of my 25th birthday.
The echoing sound of my shoes against the road slowe as I approach the cemetery gates. I try to keep the rusting metal silent as I sqeeze through a small opening; It didn't work. Security lights patroled the grounds of this cemetry at this time of night. I had to keep myself out of the way as I made my way to the man sitting beside a mausoleum. I came closer and closer to him, noticing a glass of red wine in each hand. He's wearing a black jacket with a red tie and black pants. His hair slightly fall's over his eyes as he watches me walk toward him and take a seat on a headstone.
"Give me that," I say as I grab a glass out of his hand and take a gulp.
He smiles gently as his index and middle finger brush a single blonde hair out of my face, followed by a stroke on my cheek.
"I've missed you," he whispers, his warm hand still placed on my pale face.
"As I have you," I told him. "I'm sorry I hadn't come earlier," I say as I look down. His hand lifts my chin.
"It's not your fault. I know how hard it is for you with him around." He sighs, his turn to look down. "Does he know about us?"
"I'm almost sure," I whisper, taking another sip and thinking of the way Jade looks at me each time I don't seem to follow what he's saying. He knows I'm thinking of Gerard.
"I see," Gerard says, looking at my body. "I also see that you are wearing the dress and necklace I gave to you when we first met."
"Yes," I say, smiling. I drink two more sips, the glass is almost empty and Gerard refills it.
"Where's your gun?" he asks me. I gasp.
"I'm sorry."
"I didn't ask for an apology," he reminds me. "Where is it?"
I think for a moment. Its not anywhere Jade would look. "It's in one of my shoeboxes. All the way at the bottom of my closet."
"Well" Gerard sighs. "Demolition Lovers?"
"Forever," I say apologetically as I raise my glass. Gerard raises his too and makes the glasses clank!
