Chapter 2: The End of Seclusion
Kari walked into the school, noticing that most of the people either had blonde or red hair, or their hair was dyed so that way they had blonde or red hair. She stuck out like a sore thumb, and knew it. Her curly, dark brown hair and light blue eyes were something that people in this school obviously had never seen, since everyone seemed to be staring at her. Of course, there were a couple of people with dirty-blonde hair, but that was the closest to her hair that anyone had.
She became more and more happy with her strange-colored hair as the day went on because everyone seemed to avoid her. She didn’t want to get to know anyone, and no one seemed to want to get to know her. Of course, with her luck, a few bleach-blonde haired girls sat with her at lunch. They stared at her dark hair and faint freckles, asking her if she liked the way she looked.
“Yeah, of course I do. I don’t mind looking a little different. If we all looked the same, the world wouldn’t be interesting.”
She chatted a little with the girls, but avoided at all costs letting them get close to her. The only thing Kari hated more than spiders was people. She used to have friends when she was very little, before any of them started school. As soon as they started school, they got new friends and began to expose all of her secrets. Kari was so hurt; she avoided people at all costs. There were only a select few that she trusted, and they were way older than the high school students she was surrounded by. The other reason she avoided people was in fear that they would find out about her job, which she had to keep a secret. Her job didn’t even leave enough time in the afternoons for her to hangout with people, anyways, especially sleepovers.
Kari finished the day up, being polite to people who tried to talk to her. She walked home somewhat quickly, hoping to get there before her dad did so that way she could get to work, the only place she felt comfortable. The only place where she could show off her speed and amazing climbing abilities. She walked in, set the bag down, and bolted out the door, hoping her father wasn’t home, and if he was, that he didn’t hear the door open.
