Ten Years Later
Chapter 2: “Lilly, I hope you’re getting ready for volleyball practice!” called her adopted mother. “I am!” she called back. Lilly was a ten year old girl at the time. She had long blonde hair and dark brown eyes. She also had a smile and a heart of an angel. She was rather beautiful and was not the greatest volleyball player. In fact, she couldn’t remember a time when she was ever good at a sport, or anything for that matter. She was a smart girl, but not that smart. And she was very caring and helpful, but at school not even her teacher knew her name. Lilly was used to being invisible, even at home. Her parents loved her, but they were too caught up in their jobs to even pay attention to what book she was reading. Lilly loved to read, she read about 5 books a week and was even working on her own book about a girl with magical powers. Lilly had a wonderful imagination, but recently she learned not to share her imaginative ideas with her parents. Lilly’s parents are what people call pessimist. They always see the down side of things. Whenever Lilly would share ideas with her parents like buying a plane so that they wouldn’t have to wait in traffic, her parents would yell at her for even thinking of such a stupid idea and send her to bed.
“Lilly hurry up!” yelled her mother. “ I’m coming!” she called back. Lilly quickly slid her kneepads up her legs, grabbed her ball, and rushed down the stairs. “Finally.” her mother said. “I was beginning to think that you were stalling because you didn’t want to go.” “Now c’mon lets go” Lilly and her mom both rushed to the car and drove off to the recreational center. On the car ride to the rec center, Lilly asked her mom. “Mom, where is my real mom”, “What are you talking about, I’m your real mom.” Replied her mom. “No I meant my real mom, you know the one who gave birth to me.”, “Oh, that mom.” Said her mom in a sad tone. “Sorry” said Lilly. Lilly knew that the subject of her biological mother made her mom sad, but she needed to know. “I do not know.” Said Lilly’s mom. “Maybe one day when you are older, you will find out.” And with that said, Lilly’s mom stopped the car and Lilly got out to go to practice.
