His palms are sweaty and his knees are weak as he enters the little hut over to the farthest side of the fairgrounds.
“I really cant get caught doing this or it’ll ruin everything I’ve built up to this point” is the thought pushing hardest on his mind.
“I’ve got to make this quick, it can only be a few minutes” he thinks, pushing his way through the smoke towards the little table in the center.
Behind it sit’s a young lady, a number of piercings and tattoos sprinkled across her slim body. He sits across from her and slides some money across the table, she accepts with a smirk and leans forward to listen to his proposition. Whispers are exchanged and she nods in agreement. He gets up, but before he leaves, slides a piece of paper with some information scrawled on it across the table.
Upon leaving the booth he walks out into the center trail of the carnival, attractions and rides of all sorts gathered along the sides. Even in the overly crowded place he immediately notices notices his trusting and innocent partner waiting near a cotton candy stand and makes his way toward her, trying his best to appear confident, as if there was nothing to be suspicious of. Over the loud bustle of the crowd he can read her lips, besides, her statement was to be expected.
“What on earth took you so long?”
“Sorry, there was a line...in front of the MEN’s bathroom! Can you believe that?”
“Smooth” he thought to himself.
They make their way towards the Ferris wheel, the last ride they were to go on before their little “date” was over with and they would head home for the night.
A kiss at the top of the Ferris wheel, for her, was the highlight of the night so far. For him it seemed far little compared to what the rest of the night would bestow upon him, at least, as far as his high hopes were concerned.
Before he even realized it they were walking towards the exit of the fair and past the little hut his prior inquisition had brought him to. It seemed to have all gone by so quick, but now was his chance. It was do or die, he had to set his plan into action.
“Honey! look there!” He says pointing to the little hut, directing her attention that way, “come on, we’ve got to try it, it cant be more then a few bucks.”
“Oh my god” she says nudging him playfully and rolling her eyes, “Why do you want to go to that stupid thing? Everyone knows they’re fake, a waste of time and money.”
“Come on, lets just try it, I’ve never had my palm read or anything like that, I’m curious!”
He moves towards the entrance at a fast pace, half dragging her behind him and they disappear under the tent flap with the words “fortune teller” sprawled out across it.
“Wow...smoggy” she jokes waving some incense smoke away from her face and pushing him forward towards the table, “you’re the one that wanted to do this, you go first.”
He pulls a seat out from the table and offers it to her, then takes a seat next to her, folding his hands in his lap.
A familiar face (at least to one of them) peeks out from behind a flap in the tent and makes its way slowly to the table.
“Ah! welcome, what a lovely couple, I already know your names, so there are no needs for proper introductions, but I am Lady Matilda. This beautiful young lady is Melissa, and this dashing young man is...David” She said with a wink in his direction.
Catching glimpse of the wink, Melissa grasps on to David’s arm, giving a look of disapproval that said “ Hey, watch it lady!”
David smirked and reached up and put his hand on Melissa’s reassuringly.
“But you two don’t always call each other by such simple names do you?” she continued, ignoring Melissa’s threatening glare.
“No, I sense many nicknames have been given from you to him.” the fortune teller continued directing her words strictly towards Melissa now.
“Well yeah....so? Lots of people have nicknames for each other.” Melissa persisted.
“Yes” agreed the psychic, “but your names are unusual indeed” she said clearing her throat, “banana clay? That is the most faint one I’m getting, perhaps you used to call him that a long time ago, but bunny boo, surely that one is more recent, perhaps you even still call him it to this day, am I right?”
“How in the world did you guess that?” Melissa started to ask, but was cut short when the lady turned to me.
“And you...I also sense one really strong one from you to her...Bonboncita, correct?”
David nodded.
“You two have been with each other for awhile, and your bond is strong, even before then you were good friends longer still.”
She proceeded to recount numerous pleasant times in the couples relationship, his first ever trip to Chicago to see her, the two week cruise they had gone on, She even described the kind of dog David had gotten Melissa for her birthday and where he had gotten it from (though she was careful not to give away the price of the dog, she knew Melissa would kill him for spending that much on her).
Melissa grew more and more speechless and dumbfounded the more the lady talked.
Finally the fortune teller stopped retelling tales of their past and said “ok, I
The couple looked at each other and nodded slowly.
“So now we go on to the good stuff” she said with a grin.
She lifted a cloth that was settled on the center of the table, exposing a crystal ball, putting one hand on top of it and peered into the center, concentrating.
David gripped Melissa’s hand tighter and looked at the fortune teller intently, almost as if trying to read HER mind, trying to know exactly what she was going to say, and when, trying to predict her every move from that moment on, so he would know when it was time to make his.
“oh, wow...it is very dark....” she says. “Oh, its because I’m inside of something...a box, yes, I’m inside of a little box, the box is lined with cloth.”
“Well...this is seeming dreary so far” David smart assed and Melissa giggled at the comment, but remained focused.
“Wait! do not interrupt!” the psychic snapped at him, “I see something, there is something in here with me...It’s small and shiny....a diamond I believe...there is gold too...but I cant quite make it out....”
“This is my chance.....that was my cue” David thought.
David scooted his chair back and knelt down on one knee, “Could it look a little something like this?” he asked, producing a small box from his pocket and opening it to reveal the golden engagement ring inside to Melissa.
“Yes! Exactly like that!” stated the psychic, smiling.
“Melissa, lets make a future with the two of us and make her prediction come true, shall we?
Will you marry me?”
(strongly based on a dream my friend had last night, this is what he told me)
and i figured it was a good place to end it, cliff hanger =P
lol, tell me what you think.
only thing i ask you not to say is "the only part i didnt like was at the begining it seemed like he was gonna cheat on her" cause i did that on purpose to create suspense ^.^
(there are a few inside jokes, but they should be easily understandable)
