• Part of Chapter 5

    Shadowfang burst from the bushes and stared in horror. Darkfur was pinned by Snowleopard. Snowleopard's paw was raised in a death blow. Her claws flew down and raked the black she-cats throat. Blood welled out from the wound on Darkfur's throat. Shadowfang lunged and bowled Snowleopard over. Snowleopard lost her footing and fell over, grabbing Shadowfang's leg. Snowfall scratched Snowleopard in the face and she let go. Shadowfang watched as Snowleopard fell over the edge of the waterfall. She turned around and faced Darkfur. Hollyflower stood by the bushes with a look of horror and fear in her eyes. Shadowfang padded up to Darkfur and looked into the she-cats yellow eyes.
    "Darkfur?" Shadowfang meowed.
    "I have something to tell you. I am not your true mother. Your mother and father were Dawnlight and Dustfur. They died bravely trying to protect you from everything. You once had a sister and brother. Breezekit and Gingerkit died from falling off of an edge of a cliff. I am your grandmother. I mothered Dawnlight when she was a kit. And I mothered you when Dawnlight died." Darkfur rasped, blood still oozing from her throat.
    "Now don't die Shadowfang. I want you to survive and one day you'll find a mate. It doesn't matter what Clan their from." Darkfur coughed and sighed, shutting her eyes for the last time.
    "Don't die! Please don't die Darkfur!" Shadowfang pleaded, but the black she-cat was already dead.
    "Snowfall, go get Snowleopard's body, I'll carry Darkfur back." Shadowfang meowed. "They will both be honored for their bravery in battle."

    Once they were back in camp the Clan was silent. WindClan cat's stood at the other edge of the camp. ShadowClan cat's gathered around something laying on the ground.
    "No, not Moonlight." Hollyflower choked in horror.
    Shadowfang padded over toward the group. She looked down and gasped in shock. Moonlight laid on her side, bleeding from her head. Her silver fur shining in the moon light. Greyclaw padded out of the nursery with Leafeye beside him. Leafeye cried and dashed over to her child.
    "She's dead!" Leafeye wailed. Greyclaw rested his tail on her shoulder and grieved with her.
    A battle cry sounded and Webfoot of WindClan tackled Snowfall. Ashfoot bowled over Hollyflower and Crowfeather pinned Shadowfang down. Her sank his teeth into her throat and crunched down. Shadowfang struggled to get up but her body wouldn't move. Blood burst from her neck and Crowfeather drew back, looking at her as if he couldn't believe what he did. Blood gushed out onto the ground as Shadowfang fought for air. Darkness started covering her sight.
    No! I'm dying! Shadowfang screamed in her mind. I can't die yet! I promised Darkfur I wouldn't. StarClan save me!
    The darkness had taken her sight, and everything went quiet.
