A Fallen Angel's Tears
Leven sighed heavily and took another inhale. As the trail of smoke left his parted lips he remembered. Ha glanced down at the lonesome roots of the old oak tree. That good soul no longer present. He sighed.
"Damnit Pen. Why'd ya have to be the one to go first?" he asked himself. The memory of that small girl came back to hi mind. That young, smiling, black haired girl. Some people had mistaken them as sibilings one time. Yet, that was all in the past now. It was forever lost from Leven's grasp.
Bright green eyes stared curiously up at him. "What?" he spat at the young girl. Pen smiled.
"Why are you up in my tree?" she asked innocently. The black haired boy scowled and jumped down from his high branch.
"This ain't your tree. It's mine!" The young girl gave a laugh and shook her head. Leven gave the girl a confused and angry look. "What's so funny? Quite ya laughing!" he shouted, stampping one foot on the ground. Pen laughed again, her bright green eyes smiling with joy.
"Silly boy. This isn't your tree either," she said, grasping his hand lightly in her own. "It's our tree." The fallen angel gave her a shocked look. Ever since he had come back to Earth as punishment, Leven never had any friends. In human age, he was ten and still friendless. In all his years, angel and human twice, no one had ever said something so nice to him.
He didn't smile, but he smirked, showing a little sign of happiness to the young girl. The girl he would now call friend.
Hot tears streamed down Leven's cheeks, his face showing no emotion. He was good at that. Hiding his feelings. He sat at the roots of the tree, his vast black wings shrouding his body from sight of anyone. He didn't want anyone of Pen's friends to see him like that.
"Pen." Her name slipped off his tounge like velvet. It was soothing to him to hear her name, even if his name wouldn't be said back in return, like it always had been. Her voice, it had already began to fade from his memory.
Over the years, Leven realized, that he had began to develop feelings for his beloved friend. In fact, if he remembered right, she had loved him too. He missed her. Ever since she had died in that accident four years ago . . . he sighed. He didn't want to remember now. No.
"Leven? Is that you?" The familiar voice rang in his ears. He shook his head. 'She's not really there,' he thought. "Leven! It is you!" A sudden pair of arms wrapped themselves around his torso in a surprise embrace. The angel's eyes nearly bulged from his skull.
He looked down in his lap where bright green eyes were staring up at him, along with an unforgettable smile. "P-Pen?" His voice broke, due to his crying. She nodded. The young woman embraced her friend tightly, hoping he remembered her. Of he course he did. He was just confused.
"Pen?! How did . . . how are you . . . HUH?" The young woman laughed at his reaction. Oh how he missed that laugh. But still, confusion was all that was set in at that point.
"Aparently I survived the accident. They told me you had fled the state before they got a hold of you to tell you I was okay." His eyes were still wide. The young woman hugged him, nuzzling her face into his chest. "Thank you Leven. You really saved my life back then. I never got the chance to tell you that I'm thankful to have you here." At that moment, a voice from heaven told him the truth. He smiled. He smiled.
He was the happiest angel on Earth.
