Two weeks of school, and I was deprived of my happiness. Every class was boring. Including the classes that I used to have with Violet.
Third period was indefinably not the same with Violet. I was so dazed from the lecture that I jumped out of my skin when I heard the classroom door open. An assistant principal was observing our class. I went back to my daydream and looked at my desk and wrote in a purple sharpie: Violet.
Summer days were thoughts of a forgotten friendship. Violet was gone-South Carolina-and I was left here to be sentenced to a life of hell. A knock came on my door. My mother appeared. My mother was so radiant when she was sick sometimes.
“Darrian told me, you were upset about Violet moving away.”
I felt comfortable talking to my mom. Dad, Richard Parish, he never could. We still get money from Parish Enterprises.
“Yeah. I just wish she didn’t.”
“Well you know sweetie, it’s never your fault. I mean, what’s done is done.”
I hugged her. She rubbed my back. Now that Violet was gone, I can never be the same.
“Oh, that reminds me, before they left; Violet gave me her new house phone.”
I smiled. At least we can keep in touch, but not like every summer that she was over at my house, playing a video game together, or banging out on instruments. Art friends, will never leave. I hope one day she will come back.
