Summer
- the period of finest development, perfection, or
beauty previous to any decline
---
She spun around, again and again, laughing. She felt
younger, more alive than she had ever felt before.
Her laughter was blissful, innocent and carefree, her dress
sometimes brushing softly against her legs as she twirled,
the wind feeling absolutely lovely on her face.
After a while she lost her balance and fell onto her back in
the grass, but she was still laughing. She spread her
legs and her arms wide, enjoying the sunshine on her face.
She could see a young man, looking at her with the kind of
sad smile that tore her heart to pieces.
And so, she stretched her arm towards him, and told him not
to look so sad. For they were in the summer of their lives;
and as such, there was no time for such smiles of
melancholy.
The young man sat down beside her, kissed her wrinkly brow
and stroked her wrinkled cheek, and told her to not worry
about her silly grandchild, which caused her to smile at him
again, and asked him for his name.
He laughed one of those almost broken laughs, and gave her a
tearful smile, and told her that it was of no importance.
And so she looked up to the blue sky and smiled and laughed
in joy, fully intending to enjoy her youth to the last.
