“It’s so hot…again.” thought the people of Nevadark. It was another day of heat, tanning, preserving water, and applying “Big Ball of Light Burn Keep-Awayer,” which is now called sunblock. The heated hours dragged on as Princess Calissa watched her people, mostly immigrants, fade away and go into the graveyard because of the blistering ball of light. Princess Calissa appealed for it to go away each day, but it always said no.
She knew there was only one way to be rid of the bright ball. It was Darkchester, the Dragon of Darkness. Unfortunately, no one was brave enough to challenge him. She had put up many posters for his defeat with a reward in her marriage, but no one replied.
Calissa was deep in thought when all of a sudden… BANG! BANG! BANG! Someone was knocking on her door. When she opened it, she was surprised to see a rather large, flabby man standing on her dusty doorstep.
“Allow me to introduce myself,” said the strange man in his deep voice. “ I am Izon, the Knight of Light. I’m here to accept your challenge to defeat Darkchester.”
Calissa was shocked for she hadn’t thought HE of all people would come and fight. However, he was her only hope.
“Alright, just go over to Bobby the Blacksmith. I’ll give you a note for him.” replied Calissa. “He will supply you with protective armor, a mighty sword, and a bag of wind.”
Izon soon received the note and went off to Bobby’s Blacksmith Store. Soon, he started thinking, about questions. So many questions running through his head like what if I can’t defeat the dragon?, what if I don’t like Princess Calissa?, what if the dragon eats me?
Finally, he reached the store. Then, he gave Bobby the note. Bobby made a face of shock in response and quickly gave him the items.
“Be careful. You’ll need all the luck you can get,” said Bobby to Izon.
After leaving the store, he returned to the castle and accepted the map from Princess Calissa. He then changed into his armor and went on his way. He easily went through the singing flower field. It was like an exhibit of singing sensations. They really encouraged him by singing the famous tune “Don’t Stop Believing.”
Then came the real obstacle. It was the terrifying Whispering Woods. The trees were leafless with light streaking in from above. With each step, Izon would hear a crunch from a decayed branch. Whoo. Whoo. The wind whispered in his ear and told him to go back. But, he still went on. The feasts at the kingdom were worthy of a risk like the one he was taking. After an endless, scary 20 minutes, he made it through.
He ran and ran through the patch of lofty wheat that lay before him. Suddenly, he came upon the forbidden mountain. It was the 20,000 foot hill where the evil dragon of darkness rested.
With a gulp, Izon took out his bag of wind, released the string, and shot straight up! He flew and flew until he reached the top of the mountain. Then, he shut the bag.
He cautiously walked toward the hefty nest where he saw the dragon resting. Suddenly, he saw a glint of light out the corner of his eye. IT WAS THE ORB OF NIGHT!
He tip-toed toward but stopped in his tracks when he heard a loud bellow.
“WHO DARES TO COME INTO MY DEN OF DARKNESS?” roared the great beast.
“It is I…gulp… Izon, the Knight of Light.” replied Izon nervously.
“The Knight of LIGHT!” shouted Darkchester. “YOU are the Knight of LIGHT and you DARE to come and challenge ME? Very well. But, you will not solve my hard riddles.”
Darkchester blew a fire into some wood and let the smoke tell the riddle:
2 dads and 2 sons go fishing. Each one catches a fish. But,
there only 3 fish when they get home. Why?
“They ate one!” replied Izon.
Unfortunately, he was wrong. Then came the next riddle:
What goes up but never goes down?
“Puke,” said Izon. “No one wants to get that down again.”
Alas, the brave knight was once again incorrect.
Then came the final riddle. It was Izon’s last hope:
Who is the only person who can make choices for you?
“Um…the Rulers of your city or country,” answered Izon.
He was wrong again.
This is the end thought Izon. No, he could not let this happen. He remembered the feasts, the balls, and the glory. He HAD to get the Orb of Night.
He clasped the sword in his hands and ran straight to Darkchester where he stabbed him bullseye in the heart.
He grabbed the Orb of Night, took out his bag of wind, and used the remaining to reach the bottom of the mountain. He ran faster than the speed of light back to Nevadark.
When he reached Nevadark, he gave Princess Calissa the Orb of Night and received his many rewards. He was then renamed the Knight Of Night. The townspeople cheered and ended the day with a big feast.
After the feast, the townspeople tried a new activity with darkness called “sleep.” The sleep they never had.
