“Everyone has a little monster. The one or multiple that live in your brain; sometimes known better as a conscience. The voices that speak in your head. Well I think they are. I honestly don’t know how many I have; or if I’m just crazy.
But I know one that is very hard to ignore. The one whose voice powers over the rest. Silencing them all to be heard. The one who hides but doesn’t leave. Mostly lingers. In the corners and the crevices in your brain waiting for a spark to light its fuse and become enraged. To become unforgiving. To last what seems like forever.
Causing me to think and do things I wouldn’t normally do…
Do you understand?
Can you say you’ve walked in my shoes before?
Oh you can’t? Doesn’t surprise me.
Jolon is my name and I will explain to you where my little monster gets me and what it makes me do.” She grinned and leaned back chuckling evilly. I got chills just watching her through the window.
She sat slouched forward leaning as if she were so in tuned to her interrogation. Like if she was casually talking to her friends. As she looked forward at the two men her eyes grew red slightly. Her grin grew thinner and wider.
I only wanted to glance to see what was happening, I thought, just one peek through the window.
“Why do you think you’re in here for?” one of the men questioned. The room was dim I could hardly see the men.
Jolon shrugged in her strait jacket and said, “Mother’s just a hag I guess.”
“Do you get enough attention within your household?” the other man asked.
Jolon scoffed. The lights slowly went dim then slightly brighten just to go even darker than before. I felt as if I was in a trance and I couldn’t look away.
“Oh your questions are boring me.” Jolon sighed and her eyes grew even brighter. “I think I should humor myself.” She stared them down and grinned more. The lights brighten and I seen the men. They were bleeding from their eyes. Their bodies went limp and fell to the cold ground. I looked back to her. She appeared closer to the window staring at me. She stared at me with wide eyes and a blank expression. Then she grinned again.
I heard her voice in my head.
You can see my thoughts…
She pressed her hand to the glass and the ballistic glass sizzled and melted.
“Lilly!” my mom called. I turned and we caught eyes. “Oh there you are. Come on Lilly I want to show you my new office here” she smiled and pulled me along with her.
“Okay…” I whispered. I looked back through the window. Dim lights. The men heard still asking questions. And Jolon still grinning but staring at me through the one way vision window. Watching me as I walk away.
