Quiet.
Everything is quiet, little sounds here and there are unheard by my ears.
The sound of my teachers voices, or the sound of pencils writing on papers, even the sound of my best friend's voice are unheard.
Being deaf sucks when you're at school, not knowing what anyone is saying or what the teacher wants me to do.
I don't have someone that signs or takes notes to me what the teacher said because the school won't allow it.
Stupid school.
I have been deaf for 11 years and am 13 years old now.
Since I never heard sounds, I can't speak and have to sign.
I never had someone to take notes or sign to me while the other deaf kids did.
Lucky.
No kids came to talk to me or at least I can read their lips to understand what they're saying because of me being deaf.
No kids go up and talk to a deaf or a hard of hearing kid. Oh no, we have to do more work and try to get enough guts to talk to them.
They just brush me off.
But I was lucky, this one boy came up and started to talk and sign at the same time. We soon became best friends.
Deaf kids are often alone due to the fact others, the ones who can hear, are afraid of having to repeat or feeling dumb.
It's always the other way around, it we're the ones who feel dumb.
Grown ups are always saying, ''Oh poor you! You can't hear ever again! It must be awful!'' or at least, that's I read on their lips.
Being deaf is hard, you have to try harder at work and pay more attention to what the teachers or what your boss says.
But, it made me see things in a different light, like my friends or my parents who treat me like any other teenager, not like a kid who can't hear or my speech therapist, who is so nice.
I may be an unspoken but deaf girl, but, a lucky unspoken but deaf girl and I will keep fighting for the school to give me an interpreter - and put captioning on videos.
And I will show the people that said I wouldn't be able to do this or that, that I can do what I want.

Description:
This is about how it is to be deaf and how hard it can be to be in school.
And no, I'm not deaf. I am, however, hard of hearing and so, when I turn off my hearing aids, I'm close to being deaf. - Date: 11/08/2008
