Ame had hummed her way through most of her life, never taking in her surroundings. But today, was a different day, today she would have her eyes opened to the world.
Ame stood looking at the music she had written on her wall, looking for anything missing.
"It looks fine, Yoi Shigoto!" Ame's mom had snuck in and looked at the music.
She had startled Ame, "Mom, you scared me! Really? You think so? And I told you to speak in English, we're in America."
"I know so, and I'm sorry, I know how important that is to you." She kissed Ame's head and walked to the door,
"Yoi Un!" She giggled and walked out. Ame sighed, gathered her things and walked into the living room.
"I Love you mom." Ame kissed her mom's head and walked out the front door. As soon as she shut the dorr the headphones were in her ears.
You see, music was a person to Ame. The melody whispered in her ear and told her stories. Ame loved music, it was what got her by.
"Hey Ame," Bara greeted Ame as she entered the school. Even though she liked being American, Ame hung out with the Japanese kids at her school.
"So how did your song turn out?"
"I didn't do it," Ame lied. Ame was always afraid to show people her songs.
"Well, you'll just have to show me later!" Bara smiled real big.
"Yeah, I guess." Ame laughed.
Ame dazed through most of the day thinking of her song. Something interrupted her thoughts though,
"AME SHIRAYUKI TO THE OFFICE IMMEDIATELY!" Ame came out of her daze and excused herself.
"Someone's here to see you," the office lady looked dismayed, she pointed to a room the the right. Ame nodded a little puzzled by who would be here.
"Ame, I'm Officer Bowlinger, I have some news for you." Ame swallowed hard, had she done anything wrong? She shifted uncomfortably in her seat.
"I don't know how to put this gently but, today at 9:30 AM Suzume, your mother, was shot." Ame's breath was cut short as she realized what he was saying.
"I - Is she D - Dead?" Silent tears began trickling down Ame's face. The officers face darkened and a small, "I'm afraid so..." escaped his lips. Ame fell to the floor, "HAHA!"
Ame's world was closing up, the walls crushing her and making it hard for her to breathe, she was drowning in her own tears. Ame's thoughts raged from, 'How could this happen?' To, 'What am I Going to do?!'.
The officer just stared at the twisted up, sobbing bundle on the floor that was Ame.
"I think I'll Go," the officer didn't know what else to say, so he left. After about five minuteds Ame gathered herself and walked into the office.
"I'm going back to class now." The office lady was about to object, but she saw Ame's soulless eyes and silent tears and let her go.
Ame ignored her friends questions and stood at the sidewalk waiting for her mom to pick her up at the end of the day. Ame stood there a moment, then fell to a sobbing heap on the ground. Cho, a friend saw Ame on the ground and he ran to help her up.
"Ame! Are you alright?!" Cho pulled Ame off the ground and looked at her face. Ame pushed away and hid herself.
"Just Go Away!" Ame screamed at Cho.
Cho just grabbed Ame's arm and whispered, "Whatever you need, I'm There for you," into her ear. Ame stopped for only a moment and smiled at Cho faintly, she then ran off home.
As soon as Ame got home she locked the door and ran into her room. Ame turned her music up real loud, so she wouldn't hear her own sobbing cries. She soon fell asleep.
When Ame awoke in the morning, she could not cry one more tear. Ame decided against going to school. She didn't think she'd be of any help to anyone.
Ame started the day by cleaning up the house and gathering up all of her mom's things. Some of the things Ame picked up started her sobbing again, but she quickly recovered. When she was all done she went back into her room and looked at her song. She thought for a moment and started changing things in the song.
By the end of the hour Ame had changed the song into compilations of things her mom hummed and some of her own music. Ame Cried, but this time she knew it was her mom, crying through her, thanking her. She sat down and started crying for herself, "Haha.."
Ame remembered what Cho had told her, she called him and asked him if he would come over and help her with this song. He asked what it was called and she said,
"Ame's Merodi." And She Burst into Tears.
