Oh, how I long to wake up with the sun's light spilling through my windows. I would open said windows to let in a breeze that flows heavy with the scent of lilac flowers, a breeze that caresses the soul. And on that breeze would bees and lightning bugs and butterflies glide, flitting around in the warm summer sun until they find their flower. The lilac flower that they set upon, a soft purple petal only meant for tiny feet, will send its aroma on the warm summer breeze that winds its way around the trees and right back to me.
Oh, how I long to go out in the noon, not a care in my mind as I run to the beach. The sand would tickle my feet as I sprint to the water, a best friend following close behind. And we will dive into the cool ocean's waves. On these waves bunches of sea weed will ride; we will dodge them as they float right by. With a gentle drop the seaweed will land on the sand, soaking up the sun in the mid summer's day. Under the seaweed a crab might scurry, a sideways dance across the hot sand, only to stop under the cool shade the seaweed offers. But the tide soon will rise, the ocean reclaiming the seaweed with a quick sweep of a wave. The crab will burry itself under the sand as my best friend and I run back, hand in hand.
Oh, how I long for those warm summer nights, sitting out on the porch with family and friends. We will laugh, we will talk, but the best parts are the times when we are silent. In these brief periods of time, all we will hear are the crickets winding a melody, with the waves of the ocean offering a harmony; the soft crackle of lit tiki torches will offer a sporadic beat to the tune. And the song will dance in our minds for a while, until someone offers a story with a smile. Our laughter and words are the lyrics to this song, the song of summer.
Oh, how I long to wake up with the sun's light spilling through my window, days spent on the ocean shore running through my head, as the song of summer drifts into my ears and fills my heart with the warmth of summer time.
