Obsidian Reflection
I look into the water
Not a ripple to distort
that fragile image of
someone I can't name.
The years have gone by,
blackened like the ashes
that are left of my soul
where the flame has long been out;
and I think to myself,
"Who could this be,
staring back at me?
For it is surely not myself,
this reflection that I see.
I've hurt so many tender hearts,
turned them all to stone
reduced so many living souls
to nothing more than ghosts,
cold and alone.
Another chance, that's all that I'm asking
to start this life over;
begin again at last,
for this water reflects not myself
but those I stepped on in my past."
