Something in the darkness for me waits,
Watching me as it contemplates.
Golden eyes with a predatory gleam,
But not at all as they seem.
From the shadows of my soul
From Apollyion's endless hole
From the clouds of Heaven or the depths of Hell
From which no longer can I tell.
Feathers, fur, and catlike claws,
Creeping closer on silent paws.
The air around it shimmering slightly
On it's visits given nightly
Salty tears down it's face do trail
With the constant twitching of it's tail.
Now the paws hammer ground
Like the bells of Hell do sound.
No simple thing to flee
From this creature charging me.
Yet shall I stand here still
To let it make the final kill?
My death angel at last does seem to fly
Making one long haunted cry,
And in his tracks the creature halts,
Forgiving all my grievous faults.
But what now doth he contemplate?
And how long again must he sit and wait,
Before at last he knows my fate?
