• Ever played Make-Believe
    Under an old, old tree?

    (I have.)

    Emerald leaves dancing, tapping,
    Shivering in the playful breeze,

    (A green crown)

The earth worn away, to show the gnarled,
    Twisted, muddled, knotted, knobbly roots,

    (Dirty brown feet)

The bark glowing softly in the sun,
    Cracks craddling butterflies like treasures,

    (Sneaky folds hiding)

    The sunlight itself streaming down,
Caressing the heads of small children, playing,

    (A warm golden mantle)

Moss, soft as velvet, tough as old vines,
Gripping the earth, reluctant to release,

    (Pine-green shoes of satin)

    And an imaginary world,
    Burning with magic and life,

(You can see it if you look)

    Created by children,
    For children,

    (And maybe, if you're lucky...)

Perhaps an adult could see it too...
