Paris, France 1140 AD. Notre Dame Cathedral
Narrator 2: - <Back at the Cathedral, a young squire hears something. Curious he walks towards it. The strange noise leads him down 6 stories. Then he sees a small half door. The noise was coming through there so he opens it, and the drumbeats stop. The squire’s torch went out. >
Kazkuhum: Kazkuhum, Kazkuhum, Kazkuhum
<Then before the squire could even scream he was dead. The Kazkuhum was fast with his pray. It dismembered the small boy and through the boy’s bones in the Lake of Fire. It kept the head though, as a trophy. The boy’s head was stuck on a spear and placed with the others. Darkness struck again. >
Chapter 1
The next morning Sister Madeline arrived at the Cathedral along with her 11 orphans. There was much sobbing and wailing during the funeral.
Pastor: Thomas E. Watson was a great man, boy and squire, mentor and friend. He helped many people. He will be dearly missed. May his soul rest in peace from above.
<There was a moment of silence. In the background you could hear quite sobs. Sister Madeline led her children to the back room. They sat down at their desk. >
Sister Madeline: Stay here and be quite, I need to speak with Father Paul.
<As she left the room she said a silent pray that her children would obey her and not leave for she did fear for their lives.
< The little red headed nine-year-old girl thought that Sister Madeline was crazy and began laughing hysteralically.
Saddie: Hey Margaret has Sister Madeline gone mad or what. What does she think is in the basement that is so terrifying any ways? Oh, I’m so scared.
Margaret: Doesn’t she realize that the Kazkuhum is only a folk tale, a legend, you know make believe. HA! HA!
Matthew: I agree no stupid nun is going to tell us what to do.
<While everyone in the room was laughing and cutting up the boy in the back row, Peter, was crying uncontrollably because he was over come with fear? Peter’s father went missing three years ago and he knows with in his heart that the Kazkuhum took him. The whimpering of Peter broke through the laughter and jokes that surrounded the room. Peter being a very strong child felt weaker than he ever had before. His thoughts of weakness and sadness were interrupted by the sounds of drums beating. It was playing the same rhythm over and over again haunting the children where they sat. It was as if the drums were beating out “Kaz Ka Hum Hum. Kaz Ka Hum Hum.” At one point everything fell silent.
Margaret: It’s real.
Another child: How can this be happening?”
Peter: It the KazKuhum.
< Suddenly the drums stopped and the children knew it was there. They all pulled out their rosaries and prayed.
All: Our Father which art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us but lead not into temptation, and deliver us from evil. For thyn is the kingdom and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
< Just as they said Amen and was doing their Hail Mary’s the Kazkuhum broke through the back wall and grabbed Peter. Pulling him through the wall the children began screaming.
Margaret: Peter, No! We’ve got to save him. Who’s with me?
<No hands went up.
Another child: Margaret I know its hard, but it’s suicide to try to follow it.
Margaret: But we must. If we don’t take a stand now, the Kazkuhum will kill us all. I for one am not going to sit here and wait for it to find me and kill me. So who’s with me?
Mark: You are not going to make it without me. You have to have someone who knows how to fight.
Thomas: I’m the best at reading maps. If someone can get me a map of the underground, I could possibly track it.
Margaret: Thank you Thomas and Mark. Anyone else?
Jessica: I’m good with a bow, don’t know how well, but I’ve won a few trophies and ribbons for archery. I could try.
Margaret: Thank you Jessica. Anyone else? Come on everybody this isn’t just another person taking by the Kazkuhum this was Peter. Some of us knew him since we were wee little tikes in the nursery of this same church. Now you’re too scared to help him.
Anna: Don’t know how much good I’ll be but I’d like to help.
Rosie and Jack: Us too.
Three other boys: Count us in and according to Father Paul and his high level windows we’re pretty good with a sling shot.
Rebecca and Rachel: Where would you possible get without us.
<Rebecca a accomplished swordsmen and Rachel who always had knives on her and without a question knew how to use them.
Margaret: Thank you all. Now we have to get down to business. I think we need to arm everyone first Jessica, Rebecca and Rachel and Mark and I will look for the old armory. Thomas, Anna, Sarah, Rosie and Jack, you all go to the library and search for the maps of the church. Blueprints whatever you can find. Stay with your teams and if you hear drums beating get away from the walls. Lets meet back in here in the room in one hour exactly.
<The two groups split, one lead by Thomas and the other lead by Margaret. Within just a few minutes Thomas and his group was at the library. They frantically began their search for the maps of the underground. These maps would be well hidden and kept out of site because of the fear of the Kazkuhum. Main while Margaret’s group had a harder time finding the armory. They had used up most of the hour searching for the armory, which was well hidden in a secret tunnels used for emergency escapes.
Margaret: All right we haven’t got much time, everyone suit up. Take what you need then some.
<There were battle-axes on the wall. There were swords and sheaths, bows and arrows on the shelves. Mark found a suit that fit him. He also found a spiked club and shield. Jessica picked out a nice set of Blue Jay feathered arrows and a 75lb bow. Sarah went with a bit little. A 25lb bow and goose feathered poison tipped arrows. Margaret tried out everything till she found a sword called a Cobra for its strength and shape. It was extremely light and very sharp. She also picked out a Valkaryies shield and armor. The rest picked out their weapons and suited up. They began they trip back to the room.
< Back at the library Thomas had little success. Book after book was pulled off the shelf with no success. Thomas feeling the frustration places his back against the shelves and slides down to a sitting position.
Thomas: We’ve search everywhere. Where is it? Legend says there’s secret scrolls that documents every movement of the Kazkuhum. I have to think. What are we missing?
<Just then Anna pulls out the last book on that shelf. The wall shifts leaving Thomas lying on his back looking into a room that was filled with scrolls and maps of the entire cathedral.
Thomas: Anna you’re a genius!
Anna: I’m sorry, what did I do?
Thomas: You found it! You found the secret scrolls. Grab those canvas bags and fill them up with every scroll you can I get the maps, and hurry.
<Each group hurries, back to the room. Clearing off the desk the children lay out their treasures they had found. Thomas unrolled the first scroll and read it aloud.
Thomas: These are my accounts of the forbidden beast. The one called Kazkuhum. I have noted that it stays beneath us and never strikes in the board daylight. It has haunted me since the first time encounter its presence. I am the only one who has seen it and lived. People say my life is a sad story, when I was young boy visiting this church I heard something. I can recall it to this day, it sounded like a war drum beating. Thud, Thud, Thud it went. Then it stopped. We all got out our rosaries and prayed the Lord’s Prayer. Once we said amen it broke through the wall and grabbed the boy in the back middle. I was that boy. My name is Shasta William Quinceint. The beast’s arm burned my skin. His eyes burned of fire. I do not recall what happened exactly. I do remember what the place looked like though so I was the first to make a map of the underworld. I don’t know how I escaped but I was dead to the world. They had my funeral while I was sitting in the back row. I also have no reflection any more. I guess I am dead, but even ghosts don’t escape his torched. God bless us all.
<Anna wiped a small tear from her eye. >
Anna: He was just like Peter
Jack: Did it say anything about weakness?
Rosanna: Oh it did say, “It never came out in broad daylight” maybe that’ll help.
Jack: hmm… never in broad daylight… That’s It!
Group: What’s it?
Jack: His weakness is light. We need to expose him to daylight.
Mark: Ok but how? He lives in the underworld and his nickname is Brain Boy
Tom: True but we got to think of something
Mark: Ok Brain Boy Jr. I’ve got an Idea. Let’s think on the way.
Tom: I can handle that.
<The rest of the crowd grabbed their swords and gear, which Margaret got for them. They traveled in two lines. Thomas and Margaret were leading the way with the map in hand. Everyone carried a torch in the abyss.
Margaret: Everyone stick together. We need to be as quite as possible to travel unnoticed. Where are we Thomas?
Thomas: We are just passing through the first layer of the abyss.
<The group traveled quickly and quietly through the sixth layers of the abyss trying to make it before, before nightfall. In the far distant they heard what sounded to be drums. The group stopped in their tracks, shaken with fear. It was so quiet at first they thought it must be their own heartbeat, but then the beat grew fast and louder than ever heard before. Everyone armed himself or herself. The drums get closer and closer. The walls actually began to shaken due to the vibrations of the drums.
Margaret: This is it everyone. God be with us all. Thomas any clues in those scroll as to how to kill the beast?
Thomas: I…I. Don’t know. I didn’t get that far into them.
<The wall to the right of the group erupts causing a severe blast. Standing there in complete terror, the group looked into the eyes of the Kazkahum . The beast summoned his demons to capture the children. The children scatter trying to cause confusion. Unfortunately Jack did not escape the grasp of one of the demons, named Jaqueil. Struggled to get free the Kazkahum approaches Jack extending his long bony arm.
Thomas: We can’t let the beast touch Jack! It will drain his soul making the beast stronger.
Mark: What do we do? I’ve been in a lot of fights, but this is huge!
Margaret: Ok guys fire at will! Give that beast everything you’ve got.
<As they fought they began to realize that the beast was growing bigger and stronger.
Mark: Hello, guys, it’s getting bigger and we’ve had no effect. We’re going to die!
Margaret: Thomas we need an answer here. What does those stupid scrolls say?
<The beast extended to reach Jack’s face. As he touched it Jack’s body became motionless. Jack’s body swiveled up in front of the children, as the beast sucked the soul out of them. Jessica, becoming enraged with the sight of this began fired arrows non-stop. Anna went up to hit the beast with her sword when an arrow hit her in the back. Anna fell to the ground.
Jessica: Oh Lord, what have I done? Anna I’m so sorry.
<Jessica sobbed as she held Anna in her arms and watched her die.
Jessica to Thomas: Where is the answers, you geek. We are all going to die if you don’t give us something to use against this thing quick.
< Jessica went to hit Thomas and knocked Thomas off balance. He dropped the scroll and out of his pocket fell a small vial of holy water. They vial broke, spilling on the scroll.
Thomas: Oh no not the scroll! It’s ruined.
<The ink began to run off the page. In the center of the page a message began to appear. Thomas’s eyes widened at this sight.
The message was writing in old Hebrew. Thomas had been studying Hebrew but wasn’t sure how good his translation would be.
Thomas: There appears to be a secret message here. It’s in Hebrew. Old Hebrew. I’m trying to translate but am not sure of everything.
Margaret: Thomas just try. We believe in you!
Thomas: It says something about recite this to banish the creature from the under world back to its place.
Margaret: READ IT!!!
Thomas: We being thy children and servants from thy Father above have been sent to the darkest of places on earth. We are here to send you back from which you came from taking the evil and darkness with you.
< As Thomas receipted these words the Kazkahum grow weaker and smaller.
Margaret: Thomas keep reading. Whatever you are saying it’s working.
Thomas: You have come to our world to destroy our hope and faith. But our Lord and Father has restored our faith and in it giving us the strength to destroy you. No more innocent souls shall you take. Be gone never to return.
<With those words a great light came opening a hole in the floor. The beast and his demons fell into the hole. The light signed brightly lifting the children out of the abyss.
Margaret: We’re alive! Thank you our Father, we’re alive. Thomas you were great!
<Just then Sister Madeline and Father Paul walks into the room. The hole that which there was sealed. The children’s clothes cleaned and pressed. No weapons to be found. Jack, Peter and Anna’s soul was restored and they brought back to life. It was as if nothing had taking place in the past few hours.
Sister Madeline: You children are so good. Thank you for obeying. You just have no idea of the dangers out there.
All: RIGHT!!!
