In fact only moments before they’d all met Kit he’d been talking about her again because he was always talking about Kit Thompson. “She is amazing, guys, she really is,” said Leon, throwing his head back, with a smile on his face just because he was thinking about her. “I assume we are talking about the great Kit Thompson again,” said Sam, barely paying attention. As usual Leon’s friends were quite bored with his rants about Kit, a classmate of his that they had never met. Sam was paying more attention to Kyle, who kept staring in his eyes. Billy, their bomb expert, was leaning over Fred, the computer geek. He was punching keys on a computer and entering the schematics of Billy’s newest creation into it. Jimmy was going on and on about some new girl he’d made out with to a clearly very uncomfortable looking John. Joe and Jacob were arguing about well, who really knew when it came to them. “Yes,” said Leon, “If you could only meet her, you’d see.” “Leon, quit being so annoying,” said Sam, rather angrily; he wanted to be just with Kyle, wanted to kiss him. “Sam be nice,” said Kyle, “He can’t help it, he’s just a straight guy.” “HEY!” said Leon as he rolled his hands into balls by his sides. “Are you blushing?” asked Sam. “NO!” He knew he was, his face was hot. “That’s so cute,” said Kyle, “So you really like her?” “Yes, for love of god, we’ve gone over this before, YES! I really really like her.” “Poor, love-struck Leon,” said Sam, “I feel for you, I really do.” “A love so strong yet not returned.” “Can leave a lover feeling burned.” “That’s a horrible poem,” said Leon, “And stop rhyming, it’s creepy. You know she’d be absolutely perfect if she was magical.” There was a loud noise outside. “Guys, check this out,” said Jacob, who was leaning out the door, “Worm and Maggot have cornered another poor little girl.” “Not again,” said Sam as they rushed and saw the girl kick them. “What the,” said Joe, “Who is-?” “That’s Kit,” said Leon in shock. “What?” asked Sam as they dragged Leon back into the room, “That’s Kit? Your Kit? Out there?” “Yeah.” He had a goofy smile on his face and Sam looked back out she walked past them, clearly going somewhere. “Seriously?” “How do I look?” “Like an idiot,” said Jimmy, “She’s going somewhere else.” But just seeing Kit could Leon so very happy. Plus now he knew she was magical and that made him happy because since the first moment he’d seen at school he’d loved her.
They walked on to the tarmac after getting changed. Kit was already geared up and waiting for them. She stood there with her mission pack thrown lazily over one shoulder. Its weight didn’t seem to bother her. He green jacket was too big for her anyways and she didn’t bother to button it. Her black tank was all wrinkled and refused to be tucked into her camouflage pants. She had no dog tags, no one did. All she had around her neck was a compass. It was cute really, at least to Leon. In front of her was a wooden crate. In large red letters she had written: “DO NOT DROP!” She was smiling as they walked up to her nervously. “Today, where we are going, we can’t land,” said Kit, “I assume you brainless oafs at least know how to parachute.” “WHAT?” squeaked Billy. He hated jumping. In fact the one thing he hated more than jumping out of a plane was jumping out of a plane with a bomb in his arms. “Is something wrong?” asked Kit, “Because if you’re too scared to go you can always scrub the mission.” She looked at him, half expecting him to actually do it. “No way!” said Billy, gaining his confidence as she challenged him. “Good, here’s the bomb,” said Kit as she easily lifted it up. He picked it up and nearly fell. The thing was heavy. He had to drag this around all day? Everyone was so focused on Billy that no one saw her smile and pop another pill into her mouth. She jumped inside small plane. “We’re going in this?” asked Jacob. “It’s ancient,” said Joe, “Can it even fly?” “I don’t know,” said Kit nonchalantly as she sat down. Eventually they took off and they road in the plane for twenty minutes before Sam broke the silence. “What are you orders?” asked Sam, it was a carefully thought out sentence. “We are headed to a military compound. We’ll land and you all will follow me to the secondary site. Where you’ll get you next set of orders.” Her statement also echoed with thought. It was perfectly designed to tell them what to do without actually telling them what was going on. She was serious; she wasn’t going to tell them what the mission was. They were going to have to learn to trust her. “Fine,” said Sam. She was very clever. “We’ll being jumping soon,” said Kit as she looked at Billy, “Don’t drop it.” “I won’t.” The pilot turned and gave Kit a sign. “It’s time.” They stood up. Leon pulled the plane door open. Wind rushed in around them. They all had good footing or they would have been blown away. Leon jumped first, then Joe, Jacob, Jimmy, John, Sam, Kyle, Fred and Billy. She popped four more pills into her mouth before she jumped out. She loved this part. The wind rushed around her blowing up at her. She pointed her legs straight down to go faster, she had to catch up to Billy. He was groaning under the weight of the bomb, poor kid. “Hey,” screamed Billy. “Are you okay?” screamed Kit. “I’m fine,” said Bill, he looked like he was dying. She stared at the box and muttered a small spell. Suddenly it dropped out of his hands. He was in shock. “Damn,” said Kit, “LOOK OUT!” They all looked up. Billy froze. “I didn’t,” said Billy. “Your cord! Pull your cord,” said Kit and he stared at her, “Pull the damn cord.” She ripped at his pack and he flew up. The others below her followed as she pulled her own cord. The parachutes blew open and the bomb hit. The explosion was huge and they were blown off course. They all hit the ground hard. Kit slid her bag off and pressed her hands to ankles. “You okay?” asked Leon. “Fine, you?” asked Kit and he nodded, “Everyone else?” They all nodded in shock. “You idiot,” said Jimmy as he rushed towards Billy. Kit jumped between them. “Quiet,” whispered Kit and she covered Jimmy’s mouth, “We’re in enemy territory and I’m not exactly sure where. So stay calm.” He relaxed and she let go. “Hands in the air!” shouted someone and they were instantly surrounded. “Crap,” said Kit. Someone hit her from behind and she fell to the ground. She was unconscious. Whoever or whatever it was had just knocked it out.
