Screams rent the air and savage curses beat at the walls. Mother stood quickly and looked around wildly. Father slammed the front door open, hair dishevelled and eyes frantic. "It's Itachi! He's attacking the clan!" Mother went pale, her dark gray eyes changing from Sharingun red back to black. "Itachi? No! It isn't possible!" Despite her words, mother moved protectively in front of me. "Mika he must be stopped. We are doing all we can but he is too strong. The clan needs us!" I could see mother's small frame shaking but she nodded firmly, her mouth in a thin line. "Of course. Tora, I want you to go to the safe place. Do you remember where it is?" I nodded. Of course I remembered, mother and father always made sure I knew where it was. "I need you to go now Tora." Quickly she bent down to hug me tightly, her lips brushing my temple. As she pulled away, a felt a wetness on my cheek. Her tears. Mother was crying, but why? What was cousin Itachi doing that would make her cry so? Father strode in and pulled me against him, his face buried in my hair. "Little Tora......we will always be looking out for you. We....we love you." I blinked in confusion. Love? Did father actually say that word to me? "I-I love you as well father, mother." Was father shaking as well. As another scream ripped through the air mother and father ran to the door. With a last look at me, they sped away, tears streaking their pale cheeks, framing their Sharingun red eyes. A kunai flew through the rice paper of our door to thud into the wood near my head. A kunai.....a battle. And Itachi was the cause. Battle I could understand. But the fear my parents had shown....that was unreal to me. A small dripping sound made me turn my head to look at the implanted kunai. Blood ran along it's edges and along the handle. Uchiha blood.....Anger overtook my confusion and I had to stop myself from joining my parents, but their grief-filled voices filled my head. They wanted me safe...away from the killing. It hit me then. They were no match for Itachi, no Uchiha was. My shining cousin had turned rogue. Every fiber of my being cried for me to join my parents in the futile fight, to try to protect our clan, but I had promised mother I would go to the safe place. Go I would. Staggering to main bedroom, I lifted the bed mats to reveal the trap door. This would lead me to the outer forest and from there I would make my way to the safe place. It was known to only my family so Itachi should have no way of finding me if I hid my tracks well enough.
