Andre’s main chamber-
The room is dark; the only lights are several smaller red, yellow, and green control lights and the ones on a small computer terminal near his chair. There is a glow from the large window over looking the east spire towards the mountains as well.
The snow covered buildings look almost benign but still it is a place of foreboding. In his chair Andre sits holding a glass of wine staring into the window. Behind him Sienae Hrienteh stands silently waiting for him to speak. She is uncomfortable being there and it shows. Standing near the door is Octavian Alurien, he also adds to the sense of unease in her stomach.
Andre sad Clearing his throat.) So, Sienae…I hear you’ve yet to complete the tasks given to you. You know I find that upsetting.
Sienae: You didn’t give me any deadline. I’m taking my time…
Andre: True, but still I didn’t think this would take so long. I have other matters that need attending too and this is holding me up.
Sienae: I can’t help that this is a delicate situation.
Andre: Again, true.
Sienae: Why does this particular issue hold your attention so? What’s so important about this?
Andre: That is for me to know, and me alone.
Octavian: Maybe she is unfit to complete this task.
Sienae glances back at him shooting him dirty look.
Andre: You think she is incapable of doing this Octavian?
Octavian: I do.
Sienae: It’s not your place to decide what I can and cannot do! I seem to recall you failing to have Moon assassinated. You’re little scheme didn’t even leave the planning stages before it was stopped; so don’t talk to me about being incapable.
Andre turns his chair to the left a bit looking at his subordinates. They always were at each other’s throats and they were already setting up to start a verbal sparring match right there. Andre sipped his wine slowly and then inhaled deeply.
Andre: You are capable Sienae, but you’ve been lax in your duties to me since you began to hang around those people. Sienae: Being Moon’s guard doesn’t give me a lot of freedom to move about Andre. I can’t help it sometimes.
Octavian: That alone should be proof that her mission should be handed off to someone else. Someone not constrained by service to another, one who isn’t splitting his or her loyalties.
Sienae: You stay out of it.
Octavian: (walking up on her right) This is exactly the reason I said this project should have been given to me. She can’t handle being one of us and that man’s little whipping girl.
Sienae: Shut up Octavian!
Octavian: In fact I am willing to bet she hasn’t even started. She’s just milling around them wasting time, wishfully playing out a romance with Hiiro that will never, ever become reality.
Sienae: Octavian if you don’t shut your mouth I’ll do it for you…
Andre: Enough…Perhaps he is right.
Sienae: No, I-
Andre: I think I will give your mission to someone else…not you Octavian, but someone else.
Octavian: Very well…
Andre: For now Sienae your new assignment will be to report Moon’s activities and those of his family and servants to me. It is a simple job, one that should not require…delays.
Sienae: I already do that. You should have just said: “Go do what you’ve been doing since day one.” (She grumbles under her breath.)
Andre: That is all I have for you Sienae, you may leave…Octavian, you too.
They nod and leave silently as Andre turns back towards the window he looks off to his right a figure emerging from the shadows. Andre turns to face him more. The figure leans against a support beam and folds their arms over their chest.
Andre: Not very interesting conversation was it?
Mustera: No, not really, those two act like children.
Andre: Mmm, indeed they do. It irritates me…
Mustera: The Emperor is counting on results here…I do hope these minor disturbances between your underlings is not a sign of deeper troubles.
Andre: No.
Mustera: (He pauses and thinks a moment) This “Moon” who is he?
Andre: I have the data file encoded on the disk I gave you. (Pauses) He won’t be an obstacle.
Mustera: His Excellency would like to see you transferred from this abysmal place you know…a place where all your talents could be employed.
Andre: You mean the Committee of Internal Affairs, or the Ministry of Defense, or something along those lines?
Mustera: No, not exactly…everyone knows you’re no fan of politics. I was referring to something more…useful. Like, I don’t know, the Temple, or even the Royal Guard.
Andre: Hmm…
Mustera looks out the window for a moment then back at Andre.
Mustera: Its is an open door Andre, and you know it’s not wise to pass up open doors.
Andre sad Sighs) Not until at least, at least everything is finished here. I don’t want to leave this place incomplete and with poor leadership. I’m sure the Emperor would understand that.
Mustera: I’m sure he would.
