Witness (free-verse poem)
Have you ever witnessed, A bullet just before it hits? Have you ever witnessed, A car just before it crashes? Have you ever witnessed, A life being cut short? I have. I've seen their eyes, How they are illuminated by a radiant light. How everything in their life seems to past them by. I have also seen how peaceful they look, When their life is claimed... That look of peace, I will never sustain. I look now at you, Covered in your finest clothes, Being carried to your grave. I look at you now, With a smile on your face, Like the one you always wore. I keep my tears inside, Not wanting to join my sorrowful family. Oh how I cry, When your gone away! How I wish I could embrace you tightly, Before you pass away. I walk out in the cold, Looking towards the night sky, Do you know how it feels, To be a witness?
