Catoosa, Oklahoma - ghost story
Evidently Catoosa, Oklahoma has more to offer the Route 66 traveler than just it's famous Blue Whale. Just six miles east of Catoosa on Highway 412 sits the Timber Ridge Cemetery on the edge of an area known to local residents as "Haunted Hallow." According to the story, a young Native American boy was struck by a car while he was stopped on the road with his bicycle. The boy was buried in Timber Ridge Cemetery on the first row next to the gate at the bottom of the hill. After the boy was buried, drivers began to claim that as they came over the hill they would spot a young boy kneeling next to a bike, often having to swerve to miss him. Others reported that they distinctly heard and felt the car striking something. However, when they pulled their vehicles to the side of the road, a body could not be found. Some have even reported bloody hand prints on the fenders and damage to the front of their cars. The Catoosa police department has on file, several reports where drivers are sure that they have hit a boy on a bicycle in front of the cemetery, as well as photographs of the damaged vehicles. However, each time the police inspect the site to locate a body, one has never been found. Other people have reported receiving mysterious nosebleeds when they pass by the gate of the cemetery. And, the gate itself, seems to have a life of its own, often having been seen opening and closing without assistance from the living.
