Chapter 5 Part 3 Apprentice
I stood there shocked at her comment. I wasn’t sure what to say or do. She turned back and finished with her little flower garden, turned around to leave and said, “You better leave and give up now.” Then disappeared as she descended the stairs of the shrine. I quickly turned around to follow her. Once I caught up to her, my question began to arise. “Why won’t you help me?” “You are just a pathetic fool. There is no hope to beat him. Just give up and accept it.” All of a sudden a wagon went out of control and was about to hit a girl. I manage to stop it and the mother thanked me then I went back to Alandra and asked. “Why is there no hope? Like they says, ‘Where there is a will, there is a way.’” “No hope has left this place a century ago, we can only wait till our time.” Then a bull in a pen out of nowhere all of a sudden became rabid and began to charge at people. I jump in and stop it from doing any damage, but without killing it. I then rejoined with Alandra. Soon a pattern seemed to begin. Every time I went back and talk to Alandra, she’d say a really negative response and then some disaster happens. I think she was doing either by her magic being affected by her emotions or just to get rid of me. I think it is the first for she wouldn’t have healed me if it was the latter. After both talk with her and saving people from the disasters, she finally turned to me and asked, “How far are you willing to go to do this?” “I’m willing to bet my life to defeating them.” She got angry with me then looked me and said, “Get out.” I was then sent a few feet from where I stood and hit the ground hard. She walked up to me and said, “There is nothing left to live for you can’t hope to save everyone. Just give up now.” She turns and left while I lie there and think what could have happen to her. Back years ago I heard rumor of her being the light to all those who lost it in Africa and helped all from Lesth, but now she had turn dark like the light left her. As I lay there I realized this is the first time I relaxed in a while. I don’t why, but I felt calm lying there. Then a little girl came up to me. “Hey, you awake?” I got up and said, “Yes, I am.” I paused then asked, “Excuse me, little girl,” “It’s Truly.” She said sharply. I smiled and I think she could tell. “So Truly, could you tell me what happen to Miss Alandra?” “Sure, but I don’t know the whole thing. It has something to do with her brother is all I know.” “Her brother?” “Yep he left a long time ago and we haven’t seen him since. I ask my Mommy, but she says to not talk about it.” “Hmm, thanks, Truly.” I patted her head like I did with Shun. “Thank you for saving me, Mister…what is your name?” “Nobody.” “Mr. Nobody.” I laughed a little and so did she. She then turned around and went back to her mother. I thought about it and came to my own conclusion, but first asked some of the other villagers and they satisfy what I feared to be the truth. The villages told how Alandra’s brother was like me fighting for truth and justice and was determined to stop the tyrants and practices in magic sword style, a new sword style mixing both swords skills with the magic elements in our world. He apparently left to try and kill Lesth, but was publicly executed for his crimes and it broke Alandra’s spirit after that. Before her brother gave her so much joy, but now it was a whirlpool of sadness. That darkness in her it reminds me of Sophie, how she too was plunged into darkness and nearly lost the one she held dear. My heart started to hurt. It happens every now and then when I felt darkness in a person or situation. It causes my body to ache like wanting to throw up while carrying weights. Not pleasant, it hurts me badly. I have recently have it not hinder my progress, but being torture in public while your only living relative is watching it broke me a bit, but I now know my answer to her. I quickly went looking for her and found her back at the shrine messing with the flowers. “Leave!” She said without turning towards me. The flower she was holding began to dry out. “No! I won’t.” I said. She turned to me and with darkness in her eyes she screamed, “GET OUT OF HERE!” A strong force was pushing me, but I held my ground and began to walk towards her. The pain in my chest increased. Around her the flowers and the building became dust surrounding her. I shouted, “I know about your brother!” The force began to lessen but not by much. “Quiet, don’t speak. Tell me if you do know then answer me! How far will you go?” I walked up to her and with confidence, ripped my masked off my face and answered calmly while looking straight into her eyes, “I will gamble my life to make sure none will end up like your brother. I will protect everyone from them. I will not die till the end of all of it.” The forces stop and she stood there, wide eyes as if I said something that didn’t makes sense and yet it is true. She turned to cry a bit and place slowly rebuild itself back to normal as rain began to form. “You are a big idiot, you know that.” “Yes, but also determined, truthful, kind and a nobody.” I pointed out. She laughed and said, “Okay, fine, you can be my apprentice, but screw up and I’ll kill you in the next life.” “Yes, Sensei.” I said and bowed. She laughed again. I felt happy. I brought her the greatest thing she needed right now in the clouds of despair, a ray of hope. Now I just needed for her to keep it till she can make her own.
