After a long day at work
I come home to you lying on our bed
I sit next to you
“Hey, honey, could you go out and get some milk?”
I smile
Of course, the milk
You’re always forgetting the milk
Then I notice the sweat rolling down your face
As if you just ran a marathon
“I was just working out, baby. I’ll take a shower before you get back.”
You answer as I question you
Then you smile
That amazing smile of yours
And I forget my suspensions
I forget the fact that you don’t work out
And I forget that I just bought milk yesterday
“See you later, beautiful.”
You kiss my cheek
I’m too paralyzed by the touch that I don’t realize the girl
The girl that kissed your lips
The girl that your lips taste like
The girl you don’t want me knowing about
I walk out of the room
Down the steps
Out the door
To my car
Without hearing her open the bathroom door
Step on to my carpet
And lie herself down
In my spot on the bed
I drive away
Without feeling your wedding ring being slipped off
Thrown carelessly across the room
Laughed at
Never will I forget
Seeing her with you
Seeing the hand that’s supposed to be touching me
Touching some skinny little whore instead
Never Will I forget
How much I loved you
If you would allow me to ask one question
It wouldn’t have to do with why
How many
How long
It would simply be:
What happened to “till death do us part”?
