The cackling sound of wood popping and hissing reached Ni's ears as the waif moved through out the building. Clutching to her chest Ion's skeleton, careful not to break the brittle bones as the sitting room behind her burned in a angry vengence. Soot covered foot prints distrubed the heavy dust as Ni moved at a normal gait across the marble floors and up the the stairs to the second floor. Keeping to the east as the west was burned down in her Master's first attempt. Opening up a door, Ni plucked a journal from the nightstand in the room.
Years of living and wandering the halls like a ghost had taught her were everything was even if Ni herself couldn't see it. Stuffing the old dusty tome into her mouth, tasting the grit of centuries, Ni continued down her way pulling a few things from rooms. Mainly old books some how manging to hold them and Ion with out anything breaking or falling. As the snow haired vampire came to the steps once more, the roar of flames screamed as animals that had made nests in the mansion burnt or ran.
Delicate nose twitching at the smell of fire, hissing noises coming from her as the extreme heat reacted with her extreme cold that Ni's body produce. Turning on her bare heel, and towards the bay doors, Ni entered the cold outside. Snow touching at her face and wind calling her away from the place of her memories, of her everything.
The place that birthed Ni was crumbling under the flames once more, and its care taker had turned its back on the past. And gave herself to the future. Leaping from the crumbling concrete of a balcony and landing gracefully onto the cold snow . White hair, dress and pale skin singed from the fires soot that mingled with the heavy flakes of snow. Giving a sigh, Ni and what was left of Ion fluttered into the heavy snow drifted and floated away. The mansion once more crumbling under the fire and never to be ressurected.
Hands dug at the cold earth, tiny body heaving up chunks of the cold dead land and making a hole deep enough. When the hole was large enough and Ni's fingers were bent out of shape from the breaks she had cause, the vampiress tore a large chunk of her dress off and threw it into the hole. Hearing it thump softly against the cold earth.
Soft blue lips in a frown as she reached for him, Ion, and gently lowered his bones down to rest on the fabric she had torn. Tiny hands not wanting to let the thousand year old skeleton go. Fingers carressed ever so lightly over the bony structres. Remembering the feel of his face, texture of his hair. His voice his laugh, everything that mad Ni come to care for him.
"If you are near to the dark, I will tell you 'bout the sun. You are here, no escape
from my visions of the world, you will not cry all alone." Ni sang softly, laying on her stomach, hand reaching down to pet at the skeletons face. Her dress growing out over her legs as she soothed the song out above the howling wind.
"Knowing the song, I will sing, till the darkness comes to sleep. Come to me, I will tell
'bout the secret of the sun, it's in you, not in me." Chest heaving as the hurt blossomed, she was letting him go. The spark of sun in her life, and she didn't want to. But Ni was sure he would want to be laid to rest, it was her role to give him that rest.
"The sun is in your eyes, the sun is in your ears, I hope you see the sun, someday in the darkness" The last stanza came out strained as she lifted her hand away and began to gingerly place the snow over the skeleton. Throat burning and squeezing tight, if she had breath it would be taken away. But her heart, it ached and her mind luckily was silent. The others being respectful for once.
Or maybe its because they were getting their way. When the snow became smooth over the hole, Ni wanted to throw herself down and scream and plead to be with him again. She wanted to be with Ion, he was the only one. He knew her, he loved her. Truely loved her and though he had been dead for many years, she still clung to his memories like a firce coat. But it was his memory that was making her do this, and the spirtis making her continue on with out him.
Red droplets spilled to the earth, the snow sucking them up greedily as Ni's damaged tear ducts simulated crying. A nasty bloody and mucus affair that had tracks freezing to her pale face. Ni was tempted to retrive the boys skull.
"Siiamm bi dat." Came the soft whispers of the pixies, the little creatures tugging at Ni's long white hair. Coming to see what their cousion was sad over. They spoke in whispers with Ni, who spoke back in the same sighing noises. They comforted her, soothed her and promised to watch over Ion for her now.
Still kneeling on her knees. Tiny hands covering her face, the tiny form of Ni melted away into the snow that was forever falling in her homeland. Leaving nothing but glowing orbs of light circling a unmarked grave on top of a mountain peak. And a box of old journals tucked away safely from the elements next to it.
