Everyone gets headaches. Sometimes people get headaches when they are just about to sleep, or they go to bed early just because they had an headache. Last night I was feeling terrible because I couldn't go to sleep because of the headache. Plus because of it, everything bothered me, the tv was on too loud even when it was low, reading was tiring my eyes, with my blankets it was too hot and without them was too freaking cold. But I have a method that helps me get some peace and I want to share it. It may not be anything new but it's a nice way to help someone fall asleep and forget their headache pain. Of course many would just reach for their aspirin every time they get a headache but that's not always a good thing. Some headaches go away by themselves. Taking aspirin all the time would make your body dependent on aspirin. I'm the type of person that only reaches for the aspirin when I'm in a lot of pain and it's driving me crazy. That's because the last thing I want is for my body relying on aspirin and eventually getting use to it that it stops working for me which would result in getting a stronger dose. Anyway, as I laid in my bed trying to sleep. I couldn't. My head kept pounding and my mind couldn't stop thinking enough to allow sleep to come to me. Usually when I have small headaches I focus on the ticking of my alarm clock. Every time I do it's enough to lull me to sleep and when I listen and focus on the sound my mind stops thinking, the pounding in my head starts to seem lighter because I'm not thinking about it or paying attention to it. After a while I start to get drowsy and than I fall asleep. But sometimes that doesn't always work, especially not on the more bigger headaches. That requires a bigger distraction. What I usually do is make sure my ipod or mp3 is recharge so I can listen to music...of course it's best to kept the volume low, not to low that you can hear it over your breathing or moving around but low enough that you can hear the words clear enough. Last thing anyone wants is loud music pounding in your ears because that just makes it harder for you to fall asleep and starts to annoy your ears. Doing so allows you to just clear your mind and just focus on the music. Some people listen to classical, some to opera, some to techno, some to nature sounds, and others rock or other type of genres. For me I prefer rock music with an occasional other genre mixed in. I recommend creating a playlist just for someone has trouble sleeping. If one doesn't have an ipod or mp3 or they aren't recharged. Another way is to get out your radio and tune into your favorite station or to a station that's playing light music and make sure to keep the volume low. Or better yet, move the radio closer to your head so that you can hear it clearly without it sounding like it's far away which could be a bit straining for someone's ears. Once you start getting or feeling like you're drowsy, it would be best to turn the radio off so that you don't fall asleep with it on and wasting electricity. Soon after that you would most likely be asleep, completely relax. That's was how it was for my last night. I didn't recharge my music device because I didn't think I would be needing it.
Note: Relaxing classical music is safe, cheap and easy way to beat insomnia. Many people who suffer from insomnia find that Bach music helps them. Researchers have shown that just 45 minutes of relaxing music before bedtime can make for a restful night. Relaxing music also reduces sympathetic nervous system activity, decreases anxiety, blood pressure, heart and respiratory rate and may have positive effects on sleep via muscle relaxation and distraction from thoughts.
