I'm certainly glad I requested to review this book! I love it! It's interesting and such a great young adult fantasy book. It almost makes me wish I could go back in time and read this when I was younger and share it with my friends in book club. Though that doesn't mean I won't share it now! I'm glad that the tale doesn't end here. It's only book one in the Angeleon Circle series, so there will be more of it to enjoy in the future. As soon as I started reading, I was pulled into the story and it was hard for me to put it down. For those who are interested in myths, angels, magic, shape-shifters, and fantasy, would most likely enjoy this because I sure did. It all starts with a legend of a Tree, not just any tree but the Tree of Wisdom which holds the stairway to heaven. But it has been told that it was destroyed in a feud between two immortal brothers, causing all the angels and the malevolents ones to be stranded on earth. The ones called malevolents make it their goal it is to keep the stairway from being restored because they want all the souls to be kept in the underworld. As you read it, you'll come to realize that there's more to the legend and Melaia, a young priestess will found out just exactly what it is. Because It is only with her that the restoration of the stairway will be able to transpire, but there is a cost. It can't happen without the repayment of an ancient debt, the "breath of angel, blood of man," a payment that involves Melaia's heart, soul and destiny. "I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review".
