Name: Chase Avery Tyler (Goes by Avery) Nickname: Eyepatch Age: Seventeen Race: Human/Demon hybrid
Height: 6'4" Weight: 192 lbs Build: Avery isn't a little kid. His height makes it clear that he's bigger than a lot of people his age, and his slightly wider-than-average frame doesn't really make him seem any smaller. Being a demon, he didn't exactly work out to get the shape he is: muscular but not beefy, not a wiry strength, and definitely not the bulgy muscles that human bodybuilders sometimes have. It's a step between lean and blocky. Skintone: About average for a white kid. A slight tan, just enough to see the white tanlines caused by his eyepatch and hair. Markings: A collection of scratch-scars on his arms and back. Also, eyepatchface. Similar to goggleface, he's got indents where the band presses into his face: above his left eye and across the right side of his face.
Hair color: Deep, rich red Texture: Straight Length: In the front, his hair reaches just past his jawline, but in the back, it's slightly shorter. Style: From a cowlick near the back and somewhat to the left side, the hair is brushed forward to fall over his right eye. His hair looks like it's always slightly damp.
Face: His nose has a straight bridge, and his lips are only slightly more pink than his skin. Eyebrows the same red as his hair. Sharp eyes that make most people think something isn't quite right. Expressions: He's not the type to react dramatically to anything, whether it's a surprise idiot-cat chewing on his shoe or a scream from behind a closed door. Avery's smile is more of a smirk than a grin, and any expression that shows teeth tends to look more demonic than happy. When things get serious, you'll see either a hard, sharp expression that means many a butt is about to be kicked, or a disheartened one that makes it clear that he'd really rather be anywhere else and not a second away from turning people into the human equivalent of chunky salsa. Eye color: His left eye is dark blue, almost black, and has no iris pattern. His right eye, if anyone actually sees it, is a dark orange with red starbursts just around the pupil. Thin, bright gold strands stretch from the pupil to a ring of blue-black around the edge of the iris, slowly pulsing and drifting in intricate, dynamic patterns. ...Did I mention it's usually covered by an eyepatch?
General clothing style: The kid's not a fashion king. The only piece of his clothing that's less than three years old (and isn't ripped or stained or what have you) is his eye patch. Shirts/tops: Avery tends toward unpatterned t-shirts and sleeveless shirts. Nothing close to the neck, nothing tight around the arms. A few shirts of his used to have normal collars, but they were too tight and had to be stretched out. Pants/bottoms: The holes in his jeans aren't factory made. They weren't made to achieve a certain style. They're there because that's what happened to them. They got ripped and worn out. The bottom, especially at the heel, is pretty much just a frayed mess. Shoes: An old beaten-up pair of sneakers. They used to look good, but with all the scuffs and stains and even a few holes in the formerly clean grey fabric, they look a little like they'd be a vagrant's prized possession. Other: There are a few things Avery is never seen without: a faded canvas jacket with frayed cuffs; a chain around his neck, just long enough to slip over his head without unfastening it; a black eyepatch over his right eye (he hears plenty of pirate jokes)
Personality: Avery tries. He really does. But being a 'good person' isn't something that comes naturally to him. A joke will turn out to be an unintentional insult, or trying to help someone causes some sort of catastrophe. He knows it. It's just how it goes for him. Needless to say, because he doesn't take anything to heart, he comes off as cold to those unfamiliar with him. After being with him for a little while, though, you can see that he's not quite as tough as he looks.
Habits: Covering his eye when his eyepatch is touched or moved; thinking of himself as half-human or half-demon, whichever he wants to be more in that instance; running into doorframes and other 'hilarious' lack-of-depth-perception hijinks Mannerisms: Making jokes that don't go over well; grinning and accidentally looking like he's going to murder someone; devouring food and looking almost desperate to eat faster
Likes: Wind and thunderstorms; the feel of smooth, cold metal; meat, or eating in general Dislikes: Plants and gardens; physical contact; swimming; anything luck related (but not his own case of chronic bad luck); not having wings or fire-based powers like he imagines most demons have Fears: Being trapped or constricted; meeting his father; angels and exorcisms; dying or being killed (as if that one is at all unique)
Stuff: Being a half-demon comes with a few perks. And when I say perks, I mean he has a few things that make him stand out that aren't necessarily 'nice' or 'fun'. Here's a quick rundown:
Fracture - Basically, breaking stuff. A crack appears in an object, slicing it, weakening it, or shattering it like glass. Sight-based power. He has to be able to see what he's doing. Puppetry - Avery isn't fond of this one and tries to pretend it doesn't exist. However, it's kinda hard when all he has to do is make eye contact with someone using his right eye. Hence, the eyepatch. Once contact is made, the victim goes limp and can be controlled. You know, like a puppet. He's not very good at this and has no idea how to break the connection, so unless he goes unconscious, they're both stuck with a problem. Angelic healing - It doesn't do what it does to everyone else. Best case scenario, it's a weak spell and doesn't do anything at all. Worst case scenario, it was strong magic and it's having the opposite of the intended effect. Difficult to explain. Definitely bad. It won't kill him to be healed, but it can get torturous. We're not even going to talk about exorcisms.
Biography: :B
Voice: A low voice, mellow with an edge. There's something about it that makes you want to take a step back, but it's not the volume or the tone or the words that he uses. Handwriting: Choppy, a mix of capitals and lowercase, somewhat large and a little downslanting. Right-handed. Orientation: Straight, but doesn't pursue Song: No Cigar - Millencolin
Relations: Avery has a few continuities, both roleplay and solo-written, so the people listed below may or may not exist in the same universe. And, uh... they don't have profiles yet, or belong to other people, so section is kinda useless.
Danica Arin - Dani is the type to take anybody under her wing and forcibly steer them away from 'bad'. Avery, malleable as he is when you're not trying to dismember him, isn't an exception. They're friends, good friends, but headstrong Danica is definitely the one in charge. Pretty good for a human, you could say. Zorase - Avery's half-accidentally conscripted servant-slave. He doesn't know exactly what to do with him, so he treats him like a surprise friend from nowhere while he tries to figure out what exactly the demon expects him to do with this newfound power. Percival Derosiers - Percival starts off as an unusual kind of protector to a somewhat lost and overwhelmed young Avery, but eventually, in Avery's view, becomes a father/friend/mentor. Percy, as he calls him, sees him as a student above all else, and would probably be a little disconcerted if he knew what Avery thought of him. What Avery doesn't know is that the mild-mannered mentor is a demon in disguise, one who has lead hundreds of humans to a fate worse than death. (Remembering his luck, this shouldn't be much of a surprise.)
