Dying to Be Alive : Chapter four
Elenore sat on the sofa in the room. Her head was pounding. There was a yet another ball going on. As Scarlett came into the room, she could here Despair singing for everyone. Elenore sat up as Scarlett gave her a glass of water and two pills. "Here, dear. Take these. They will make you feel better." Scarlett said with a smile. Elenore took the pills and drank the whole glass of water. She already felt a little better. Maybe all she needed was a glass of water. She sat back, sighing deeply. "Thanks." She mumbled, closing her eyes. "Would you like to sleep in my bed for a while? It could help." Scarlett told her, standing up straight. Elenore nodded, slowly standing up from the sofa and following Scarlett out.
Elenore laid in the bed, groaning. She flopped around like a fish out of water. She couldn't fall asleep. She sat up in the bed, pouting. Elenore stood, walking to the vanity in the room and brushed her messy, no-sleep bed head. She looked down at the other things on the vanity. She smiled.
"Hey! Get back here!" Despair pouted, chasing a little boy around the room. Scarlett giggled softly. The boy hid behind Scarlett, looking at Despair with a wicked grin. "Human scum!" He yelled. Scarlett paused, glaring down at the boy in a cold stare. He looked up at her, eyes wide. He ran off. Scarlett sighed deeply, shaking her head. She opened her eyes to see Elenore. She smiled at what she was wearing. Elenore quickly ran over to them, nearly tripping. "I hope you don't mind." She said to Scarlett. Scarlett shook her head, smiling at her. She bent over a bot and gave her a kiss on top the head. Elenore smiled back. She watched as a head haired boy made his way across the room. He wore a plain black mask. He came up to Elenore, staring at her for a moment. Elenore's cheeks grew red as he just stared at her. He grinned, putting his hand out. Elenore looked down at it, not sure what to do. Scarlett whispered in her ear. "He wants to dance. Go on. Have fun, dear." She smiled as she stood straight again. Elenore nodded, taking his hand. She gasped as she was being twirled. He was an amazing dancer. Despair was standing at the wall with Scarlett, clapping his hands. "Wonderful, wonderful!" He called to the couple. He took Scarlett's hand and led her to the floor. As he did so, Richard came in, rubbing his temples. "When will this damned music stop?!" He yelled. He walked to Despair and Scarlett, interrupting. He glared at Scarlett before pulling Despair into a hug. Despair looked up at him, confused. "Why can't you just leave him alone?" Richard spat. Scarlett scowled at him. "He is my husband! We both love each other deeply." She replied, folding her arms. Despair pouted, stuck in Richards hug. "You made him go insane!" Richard yelled to Scarlett. Despair stopped struggling, his face blank. He sighed. Richard grunted, being kneed in the groin. Despair pulled out of the hug, wrapping his arms around Scarlett. "Yes. And, I prefer living like this. Scar is brilliant. The most beautiful woman I have ever seen." He said, kissing her on the cheek and resting his head on her shoulder. Scarlett looked back, hearing a scream. She ran towards where it came from. She seen the red haired boy, arms around Elenore's limp body, and blood. Elenore lay in his arms, eyes closed tightly. "You promised if I let you feed off of me, it wouldn't hurt this bad!" Elenore yelled to the boy. The boy looked at her, frowning. "I'm sorry." His mouse like voice told her.
"What were you doing to Elenore?!" Scarlett shouted at the boy. "You...you pervert!" She scowled at him, growling slightly. Richard sighed, holding his head. "Calm down. It what us...they need." He quietly said. "Blood is like water to them." He told her. "You don't hear me complaining about how you murder my brother over and over." He mumbled. Scarlett glared back at him. She looked back at Elenore, frowning. "What were you thinking?" She said, arms folded. "I just wanted to help...he said he started to feel dizzy." Elenore said, being quiet. She played with her skirt, being quiet unless she was spoken to. Scarlett sighed softly. She bent over and hugged Elenore. "Well, you're a very good girl, Elenore." She said, kissing her on the cheek. Elenore smiled, hugging her back. "So, you're not angry at either of us?" Elenore asked her. Scarlett shook her head, but looked to the boy. "Who are you, and where are your parents?" She asked. "My name is Jeremy. And, I don't have any parents." Jeremy told her. Elenore frowned. She looked down to her feet, kicking them slightly. Scarlett nodded. "Where do you sleep?" She asked. Jeremy turned his head, avoiding the question. "He can stay here, right?" Elenore asked, quickly looking up at Scarlett. She had the puppy dog eyes. She sighed, looking down again when Scarlett hadn't answered. Scarlett smiled. "Of course." She said, looking to Despair who nodded quickly. He seemed quite happy to have him stay with them. Jeremy smiled. He was looking down at the floor. He jumped up, hugging Scarlett tightly as a thanks. "Don't touch her! She's my wife!" Despair said, running over and also hugging her. Scarlett sighed deeply. Jeremy let go, smiling at Despair.
As they returned to the ballroom, Richard stood at the opposite side that the others did. He held his head, grunting. He pulled a vial of red liquid from his suit coat pocket, drinking it quickly. It wasn't enough...
