At some point the zombie apocalypse will be over. It will be unknown if the zombies will be the ones to win and take over the world or the survivors. We wouldn’t know unless it happens and we survive it long enough to know the answer. But if survivors manage to establish a society when the threat of zombies are few, they would focus on long-term survival.
They would rebuild, they would plant seeds to grow food, find animals to raise and produce milk, cheese and meat. They would create a new order, a society that seem similar to those in the past. They would focus on those things first before ever thinking of going back to the way things were before the apocalypse.
They wouldn’t use money because it’s not valuable anymore. It would be useless. Instead they would use goods to buy the things they need, especially if they couldn’t make or get it themselves. It would be the exact same way the people in ancient times did it. They would trade those goods which would be food, weapons, medicine and other things.
Those things would be their form of money. They are much more valuable in a zombie apocalypse than jewels, gold and silver. After all, what’s more useful? Medicine or a diamond ring? Would a diamond ring save you if have an infection? Would it save you if you’re being attacked? Would it save you if you’re starving?
No, it wouldn’t. It could have saved you if it was before the zombie apocalypse. You could have sold it for money which then you could have use it to buy the things you need. But in a zombie apocalypse that diamond ring means nothing.
People would want ammo for their guns and want weapons for when there isn’t anymore ammo. They would want medicine and books on medicine (such as which herbs have medical benefits, how to prepare them, which are best to use and for what, how to sew a wound, and so on). They would want seeds so that they can grow their food, especially when canned foods are all gone. They would want farm animals so that they can have eggs, bacon and milk again.
When the threat of zombie are no more, it wouldn’t be surprising that they would bring back the value of money. But also don’t be surprise if there are a couple of people out there who figure that out and started hording money hoping and knowing that one day it will become valuable again.
