Imagine holding some of the most beautiful and innovative works from today’s top watercolor artists in the palm of your hand. Curated by artist and lecturer Helen Birch, Just Add Watercolor is just such a collection, featuring behind-the scenes tidbits on each piece, insights on the creative process, and tips to get you started on your own watercolor painting journey.
This book is smaller than I originally thought. It’s size is about 5”x7”, similar to a greeting card, but it has 200 pages full of beautiful artwork, ideas, tips, and techniques from many different watercolor artists. Visually, the book is a feast for yours eyes. I couldn’t resist looking through the whole thing before reading the texts. It’s not that often that I get inspiration just from looking through a book. I haven’t delve much into watercolor, but I certainly want to attempt it again after looking through this. I’m an artist, but not one that is experience with painting, especially with using watercolor. I have experimented with it in the past, but never got the handle of it.
I personally didn’t find this booklet that helpful, at least not for an absolute beginner like I am. I thought it might be like one of those step-by-step art books, but it’s not at all. It seems like it’s meant for those that are much more experience with using watercolor and are looking for ideas. However, I still enjoyed the book. It’s lovely to look at and great to keep at your coffee table for display.
[Note: I received this book from Blogging for Books in exchange for an honest review.]
