Fandom: Batman: Arkham Asylum Pairing: None (...if I did I might've done a Jason Todd/OC) Rating: PG-13 Note: Just a short incomplete drabble with an OC. Summary: Arkham Asylum has a long history, most of which isn't good. So it isn't surprising that there would be stories of those that have seen an apparition of a dead Amadeus Arkham wondering around the island. But long before his death there was another, a young woman in a black dress. She goes by many names: The Lady in Black, Angel of Death, The Willow, and so on. No one knows who she is or where she came from, but they do know for certain that she's not apart of the Arkham family. After all, records show that Elizabeth Arkham never had a sister or a daughter.
‘It wasn’t always like this’, she thought, running her hand against the peeling paint of the bare white walls. Her hand turned transparent, phrasing through it as she walked down the hallway. She dropped her arm as she reach the main lobby of the asylum. She remember a time when it was originally a mansion of the Arkham family with it’s beautiful botanical garden that expanded nearly the entire island. It was so lovely, but now its mostly dilapidated.
“I suppose it’s fitting,” she hummed, “with the kind of history it has.”
She glanced at the stack of paint cans, paint brushes, ladders and tools piled up in the corner. ‘Looks like they’re going to slap a bit of paint to make this area look better than it is.’
They’ve remodeled the mansion into a medical facility, one that houses patients with mental illnesses. In the beginning the Arkham’s family intentions were pure, wanting to truly help the sick. That all changed when Amadeus Arkham himself was slowly driven insane shortly following the grisly murder of his wife and child by a lunatic named Martin "Mad Dog" Hawkins.
For as long as she had been there she hadn’t seen any patients leave, not even in a body bag. It didn’t take her long to figure out why. The anguish tainting the walls only grew stronger over time and the wind carrying the silent screams of the sick. Sometimes if she listen closely she can hear the secrets that the forgotten whispered to themselves.
Amadeus got revenge and continue to descend into madness. He eventually became a patient in his own asylum until his death. Arkham Asylum was closed down for many years as there was not a need for a dedicated facility to house the criminally insane in Gotham for quite some time. As a result, Blackgate Prison became the defacto penal facility in Gotham.
But under the new ownership of a political activist, Quincy Sharp the asylum was reopened. It was expanded and fixed up with state of the art systems to keep Arkham's criminals contained. Of course, with the existence of Batman it also encourage the rise of criminally insane villains like The Joker to exist as well.
The young woman shook her head and stopped at the large entrance doors. ‘I wonder how long it’ll be once those doors are opened again? They’ve been working on this place for a while now. It should be very soon.’
She walked through the closed doors, glancing up at the cloudy noonday sky. Her black summer dress swishes around her knees as continue to walk to the iron gates. Her dirty blonde hair flowing like waves in the sea from the cool breeze.
