*sighs*
Do they? I haven’t been around lately in the fanfiction world to see if it’s common nowadays for readers to ignore them or not. Maybe this is just an issue on a particular fanfiction website. I don’t know, but it’s something I’ve been noticing recently when I started to get back into reading and writing fanfiction.
It’s really great to get reviews, but it’s annoying to see readers ignore author’s notes. I get it if the author’s note is pretty long, but that’s kinda typical with them in the first chapter. They're suppose to be informative and are always about the story. For example, I clearly stated in my author’s note that I’m NOT doing requests anymore. Yet, they still continued to pester me about it. Some even still send me private messages about it.
I also noticed the same problem on my other old story. The difference is that I get reviews telling me to how to write my own story. That they want me to write it with this pairing and do this instead of that and so on. I don’t mind readers’ giving me advice or suggestions, but I find it extremely rude to do so in a demanding manner.
I’ve been staring at this recent review wondering if the person even bothered to read my author’s note. I said that I’m not continuing the story. The only reason I posted it up in the first place was because it’s up for adoption. I only had one chapter and posted what I had done, along with story notes about the ideas I had for the main character and where to take the story. That way, whoever is interested in it would have a general idea on where I was going with it. That’s it. I’ve never made any plans to continue it.
I was told by a friend that it’s not unusual to see this. That there are people who are only interested in reading stories for instant gratification or whatnot. That they’re lazy and don’t want to write their own stories so they’ll try to get someone else to do it for them.
