I decided to use my journal to give information on Asian Cinema and other subjects so I can help spread the knowledge I have. why am I doing this? because I'm so ******** bored out of my mind.
Well on with the show!
First: What is Asian Cinema?
Asian Cinema has become more popular in the recent years. They are movies from all over Asia that bring a new level of Cinematograpy and atmosphere to the american masses. Some examples of the boom would be The Grudge, Dark Water, And The Ring. All these movies spawned off of their original Japanese Counterparts (Ju-on, Dark water, and Ringu). After these movies were remade into american versions, they decided to bring the original Japanese horror films, Marking the beginning of the Japanese Horror Genre.
A Label called Tartan Asia took on this task having two major labels; Tartan Asia and Tartan Asia Extreme. The Tartan Label brings over many Asian films from Korea, Japan, and China, even in Taiwan. It is a good label to start your Asian Cinema curiosity. There are also independent labels that bring over popular asian movies, but the Tartan label gives you a variety of films.
Second: How can I get these films??!
Most DVD stores sell these movies, Circut City is the place where I find them the Cheapest and the most of them, though when they sell out, it seems like they don't get any in for quite a while.
Another and best place to get these movies would be at Asian Cult Cinema This Place sells all sorts of Asian films, from the ones I have and review, to also some older classics. They also publish the Magazine Asian Cult Cinema. This magazine gives reviews, info on the directors, interviews with the actors, and all sorts of information. Though, this magazine is only published 4 times a year, but you can also order back issues. they can be pricey though 6 dollars per issue.
This site would have the widest selection, but none of these films are dubbed and many of the DVD menus are in the traditional language. ALL these films bought at this site have Dubbs, and can play on american DVD players. read all the information about the movie before purchasing.
Reviews
Cello
Cello is a Korean Film from the Tartan Asia Extreme Label. Its the story of a young woman named Mi-ju, who is haunted by the grizzly accident that killed her young friend. Giving up the Cello, she lives her life as a temporary teacher at a local school. A Series of horrible events begin to unfold, and until Mi-ju is able to figure out what it is, it will not stop.
This was an excellent movie, Good plot, good climax and twist, and lots of blood and gore for those who need some blood in their horror movies. There was never a moment I was bored with this film, it starts you off right in the action of the movie, and jerks you about in diffrent directions. Its a recent film brought over by the Tartan label so it is pricey. you can always rent it at blockbuster if you dont wish to purchase it.
