Listen, listen....
Beware. Once you cross the line will you ever see the other side?
"We're getting really close now, aren't we?"

Light flickered as fire reached out towards the heavens. There was nothing but trees and stars besides the fire and they themselves. She sat idly with her knees drawn up to her chest. Her arms wrapped around her legs and her chin was perched on top of them. Her eyes remained low, a mixture of pondering and somnolence in them. Another sat beside her, though not close enough to where they were touching. He looked indifferent, though there was a tinge of negative emotions brimming about him that only those who could perceive human emotions carefully could pick up on. Despite one of them speaking neither of them added on or even made any noise. They both remained still, the speaker waiting for a response.

The man cleared his throat and shifted, setting his legs up and placing an arm up on one. "Yeah, I'd say so."

"You take too long to respond. Why don't you talk to me? You used to so much before."

"...Nh...."

He'd tried to give her a reasonable explanation but failed. All that he had been able to get out was a strange sound. He received something between a huff and a sigh. He made an unnoticeable flinch and brought his hand back to rub his neck.

"I miss when we used to talk to each other. When we started out we were both so scared but happy to be together." The girl moved herself to face her partner. Her head shifted to a side, leaning over as if there was a weight gradually weighing her down. "I can't remember how long ago that was. Maybe it was two years ago, maybe just one month. But so much has happened since then. We've gone through so many hardships together because we wanted to see the end of this together. We stuck together. When you needed help I held out my hand, and when I needed help you held me until I stopped crying and even longer passed that. And now that we're finally so close to the end you want to give up? Give up on this journey? Us? Me? What do I mean to you?"

"A lot. And I mean that." He answered quietly, not moving an inch. "I never meant to become like... this."

He turned his head to look over at her. He studied her face. How her jaw curved, how deep the color of her eyes were, and the way that she was looking at him. He lifted his hand up and set it down on the side of her face and stroked her lips softly.

"But even though I'm acting like a moron," he stated while moving his hand to rest it down on her shoulder. "I'll stick by your side like the irritating tick you always used to call me."

"If you don't I'm going to kick your sorry a**." She growled, lowering her eyelids for a dangerous look.

He smiled at her and made a small "oof" as she threw herself onto him. He stiffened for a moment but then slowly wrapped his arms around her frail form. She landed a kiss on his neck and then laid her head down on his chest.

"Hugging isn't so hard now, is it?"

"I guess not."

"You should try it out more often."

"Ah."
