They took me to watch them feed again; more gently. I never found out quite what led to that strange reaction with the first victim I saw. None of the ones that followed seemed quite as ... victim like as that first one. I might think that Vlad had led them to be especially harsh to see if he could drive me away, break me, if he had ever shown signs of that kind of casual cruelty before or after. But when it came down to it, he didn't . He was harsh; and removed from mortal rules most of the time, and seemed to hold himself, and to a lesser extent, Edward to a different standard from the rest of the world but he never seemed truly cruel. I knew cruelty. Though even as I thought that, I had to stop, and I thought as hard as i could and could not remember where I had seen the kind of cruelty I knew I had seen.
