this morning is not a time one would like to remember...
the race.
a young man, a runner. the first race of his sophmore year.
tension but excitement at the same time. nervousness. competition.
(5:55am.) a cool summer morning. arriving at the team bus, the feeling of anxiousness comes to mind.
(7:00am.) arriving at the destination...3 hours until the time...the time when his race begins. going over the course confidently. eager for competition. he waits...
(10:00am.) the time...feeling confident. ready. relaxed. the team lines up for a quick drill session before it begins. now the time arrives. the feelings running high. we take our mark. the time that this young man has waited an eternity for. the announcer stated the rules. "on your mark!" *BANG!*

((3 months earlier.))
a runner. competitively running a 6 mile practice course. feeling a sharp pain in the knee is forced to stop 4 miles into the course. what is wrong? this hasnt happened before....minutes can seem like forever when in a situation such as this. the people ahead are out of view. there are no people behind. the only choices are:
1.) give up and wait until a group comes to find you. ((a discrace to a runner))
2.) finins it like a man.
this one of course chose the second option. as the runner reaches the finish, nobody is waiting. they have left. without him. he walks to the area where the team is finishing the stretches. he knew he was not going to run...but he never knew it would take over 2 months to completely heal.

((back to the race))
the start. speed. everybody striving for their desired position. the one runner finds his pace and keeps it until one of the worst things happened. TWO. two. it is a number that he will always remember. they are called side stiches. known to most people as cramps. there are 2 levels of pain that a cramp can cause. one being a slight pain that most people can endure the other being extreme pain to the mid to upper chest. the runner had the second one. the entire race he struggled to keep a low jog. he eventually finished.
(the finish)
oh the finish... the runner finished with a time he never thought was possible for him. not a good time but a bad one. almost 6 minutes worse than his bad race the previous year. he unwillingly accepted defeat.
(conclsion.)
it hurts. it does. to have your expectations lowered by yourself. the only thing to do is train. he will be a good running once again someday...somehow.
never give up on the things you put your heart into....because it sucks to watch yourself fail...
