Confessions of an Unquiet Mind
The brain droppings of an overly-creative Anglophile and future zookeeper.
Rumors of the Death are Greatly Exaggerated
Thanks to the phone company deciding to cut off my supply of Internet in September, I've been unable to really get on Gaia since then, hence my being MIA and AWOL.

My first major piece of news is that I was offered a job at the Binghamton (NY) zoo on Friday, so I am FINALLY going to become a zookeeper! biggrin rofl 4laugh exclaim That means moving, so six months after moving into my apartment I have to pack up and move out. Too soon! I like this place! It would be niece to actually stay in one place more than a year-ish. Here's to hoping my stay in Binghamton allows me to achieve that goal.

The job also includes some work as a veterinary technician, so I'll actually be putting my NYS license in veterinary technology to use after seven years of it collecting dust. It's about time it actually served me some purpose, what with the two years of schooling and thousands of dollars spent to gain it.

Last night, Sam, my beloved white snugglebug of a feline, went to the local emergency clinic and it turned out his urethra was blocked by as-yet-unidentified 'gunk' which formed in his bladder. It's a good thing I took him in, because his bladder was already pretty full and waiting any longer could have caused him serious, possibly fatal, health problems. I'm totally broke so it took help from my parents to put down a deposit on the cost of his care, and that was just keeping him there overnight and getting him unblocked.

I picked him up today and only because I have training as a vet tech did the doctor give the okay to me taking him home with the urinary catheter still in and doing basic supportive treatment until I can get him to a regular vet on Monday. God has been most good to me with this whole situation. Had I not been able to find a way to deal with the cost of his care, I would've had no choice but to put him down. Untreated, the blocked bladder would have led to his death. Blocked bladders are treatable, so that would've been a very tough pill to swallow; to know something could have been done but been helpless, for want of the money to pay, to do anything. God is indeed good.
