Of Making a Literal Impression: Rose and Taran

Taran extended the battle blades, though he still saw no sign of their ships. That was more distressing, it seemed, than anything else.

"Are we going to land on that planet?" Taran asked, curious if they were going to land the ship there or simply send out a shuttle. Xink and Nogard were in that planet, and they had to be rescued.

Rose, as soon as she heard Dragon give them the order, opened fire at the surface of the planet. She concentrated her fire at random areas across the visible surface of the planet; she wanted to get their attention so she'd have an actual target to aim at.

She could already see the damage the surface of the planet was sustaining, when she saw something else interesting.

"We have incoming!" Rose said, watching the heat resonance from different areas of the planet. The Renstock ships were heading towards them.

Taran gave up hope of landing the entire ship on the planet. He really had wanted to go down there himself, but now he would have to argue with Dragon over the right to go. And he did not relish the thought of arguing with the Blue Princess without what she would see as a good reason for him to go.

Rose started firing the plasma cannons at the incoming ships. She had to get the hang of it; the ships were really almost too far away yet to hit, but she was getting a few of them. As long as the Altsoba didn't close in on the planet, she thought she could probably keep the enemy from surrounding them.

Niko needed more mechanical parts than chemicals, but she needed a few biological compunds as well.

"Do you have any free carbon?" she asked, still looking down at what looked like a complex computer chip, welding it to a thin steel frame, along with a tiny cooling pipe. If this worked, they would have a much easier time in this rescue, for certain.
