1 Kida arrived at the school steps. It had taken her a long time to get here from her family's small home by the sea. She sighed as she opened the door, her hair blowing a bit from the rush of air that attacked her. Her golden eyes looked around the school as she took out the paper. Scanning the contents before she spoke in her soft voice. "Where do I go?" she asked herself as she took some steps in. A duffle bag and backpack slung on her back and shoulders. Kida walked in the building as she looked around for a sign or something. Beginning to walk down a hallway even though she had no clue where she was going, she made sure her bags didn't fall off her shoulders. She saw another boy, looking just as lost as she was, and walked towards him as she spoke. "Um, sir? Do you know where the office is? I just arrived at this school and have no clue," she said in her soft voice, her long black hair falling down past her waist. She didn't care to pin it up today. An elf walked up to them both. "What d'ya need?" she asked, letting out an annoyed sigh. "Um, could you please help me find my room? I’m in 000. My name’s Godric by the way," the boy said in a cheery voice. Kida turned to the girl that seemed to be in the same hallway. "My name is Kida. I am also looking for my dorm," she said. "Okay, I don't know where your dorm is exactly, but that general direction over there,'' the elf waved her hands in the opposite direction, "I don't know much about numbers, I'm still figuring this out myself, but if you go that way, you'll find it eventually." she waved to them and walked away. Kida nodded before she headed down the dorm hallway. She sighed as she looked around for the number on her paper. Her dorm number was 333. She turned her head as she counted down the numbers. Pretty soon she reached the door. "This must be it," she said to herself before she opened her door, going inside the room. 2 Kida had gotten unpacked and settled in. She also decided to have a shower and change her clothes. She hoped that they had a pool, lake, or something she could swim in; her mermaid side needed air sometime. Sighing, she decided to put her hair in a high ponytail. Wearing a light blue shirt and a black knee length skirt, she decided to head out. Walking down the halls as a sign pointed to a library. This she smiled at. Maybe they had a map or something of the school. She lightened her step a bit as she headed for the library. Not really wanting to go to the library, she knew that she would have to get wet soon, so she decided to see if there was a pool or something around. Walking out of the room, she followed the signs until she saw one that said pool. Smiling to herself, she walked in to find no one there. Shaking her head as snapped her hands as a light blue shirt appeared on her. It went down to her knees. She was wearing nothing else. Diving into the water, a bright blue light shown throughout the pool room. It was so bright that she was sure people could see it. Kida's legs turned into a mermaid tail and a long tail with a pointed end came with it. It was coated with a misty blue. Her upper front and torso was covered in spikes of ripples. Her hair got tied up in the back. Small fangs came out of her mouth as she swam around. Kida sighed as she swam around the pool in her mermaid form. It felt so good to have some freedom after being in dry climate for awhile. One would think she was a shark from how she was swimming. Kida gasped for air as she rose out of the pool. Her mermaid tail flopping around as she turned back into a woman. She sighed as she headed for the diving board. Climbing towards the tallest one, Kida still didn't notice the two people watching her as she took a straight dive in. Water seeming to almost splash around her as she once again turned into a mermaid. Smiling to herself as she swam in simple circles. Before coming up for air. Kida turned from new vibrations reaching her. Meaning something or someone else was in the pool. She swam towards the deep end, but could see a person. It was a boy, but he quickly shape-shifted to an otter. “Hello, it’s nice to meet you,” he said. Kida cocked her head to the side. "It's nice to meet you as well. I can tell you were watching me," said Kida. “Yes, but can you tell what I am?” he asked her. "Otter," said Kida as she swam around him before swimming a bit deeper. "Such a naive little mermaid," he said as he changed into an eel, "so naïve." "I'm sorry, I must have not known. I grew up along the sea for most of my life," she said back to him as she swam around. Glad that they had a pool here. She came up for air on the shallow end of the pool. "I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to offend you." He changed back into his human form. "I’m not a creature of the see I’m a creature of the earth." Kida looked over at him after she changed into her human form. Her long black hair pooled around her as her long shirt covered her form. "I see. So, you’re a creature of the earth? I have heard of those." said Kida. As Kida came up for air, she saw a wolf jump up. It then changed into a human as well. “Hi,” it said in a friendly tone. Kida looked over toward him. "Hello," said Kida with a smile. “Yes, a shape shifter, a creature of the earth of shadow and of many other things" said Kuro behind her. "Very interesting. It must be a very important race," said Kida. Her body was already dry by now, so she just settled for sitting on the side of the pool. Some of her hair dipped into the pool though. "If you say so. I personally don’t think I’m a very important race, I think I’m one of the lesser races, but the strongest surly," he replied. "I can tell. From the way you put it you seem important," said Kida. "I told you, I’m not really that important. I’m just a strong guy looking to have fun," he replied. "That's good," said Kida with a smile. "It is very important to enjoy life," she said again. “Life. It is just one more thing that occurs." Kida nodded. "That is very true," she said. “Yup.” Kida looked back at the pool. She dipped her hand in the water. It was not saltwater, so she figured it would make her loose her tan complexion sooner or later. She was sad to find that the ocean was miles from here. How she missed it already. Tons more space to swim and much more to do. Unlike a pool where you have to find things to do. She figured that she would have to get use to it. "So, your name’s Kida, right?" Kida turned and nodded. "Yes. Kida Acana," she said with a smile. "Let me guess, you would like to go to the ocean?” he asked. "Well, I do miss my home. But I came here because I thought I could be helpful. Everyone, I'm sure, must miss something about where they come from," said Kida. "I don’t miss anything about where I come from. I mean, after a few years I had read everything and done all the training I could, I really found it boring,” he replied. "Well, it is still your home," said Kida. "A home where no one recognized me, no one liked me, no one treated me like a person. I despised where I came from,” said Kuro. "I see. Well I can tell that everyone here is treated like a real person. It is supposed to be like that in life," said Kida. "Yes, but if I am treated like I was before I now have the skills to destroy those who do it," he said. "Very true. You seem to know what you are doing then," said Kida. "Thank you...Would you like me to take you to the ocean?" Kuro asked Kida. Kida's eyes lit up. "You would do that for me?" asked Kida. "It’s really not a problem, just take my hand." He extended his hand towards Kida. Kida was a bit concerned at first, but then she took his hand. They suddenly disappeared. 3 They reappeared in front of the ocean. The giant green waves crashed against the tan sandy shore. It was just as beautiful as Kida remembered it to be. "There you go, you have a few hours to just swim around," said Kuro. Kida's eyes widened. She smiled and ran towards the ocean. Sighing as the salt water hit her skin, she dived into the water. A blue light surrounding her as she once again became a mermaid. "You’re welcome," the words died on Kuro’s lips as he said it. The ocean seemed to flow around her, welcoming her back into the ocean. The cool feel of it ran around her skin. She swam down to corals and let them brush over her hand. "I’m happy that I could make somebody’s day," Kuro said. Kida eyes looked towards the surface. ‘Want to swim with me?’ she asked him. "Sure." He took off his trench coat and his shirt and his shoes and socks then he changed into a merman as he jumped into the water. Kida smiled as she saw him come into the water. "You seemed upset," said Kida. Another girl entered the water. "No, I’m not upset. It’s just I’m having a little problem getting used to people treating me like a person...Oh, hey, look. Someone else’s is here." He turned around and yelled, "Hi! How are you? Care to join us?” Kida smiled. Being a real person was what it was about. "Well, when you live most of your life caring for yourself and others treating you like scum, it’s a little different," he said, seeming to read her mind. "Oh hi, I'm good, I'll join you." The girl said with an awkward smile. "I'm Annelise, you can call me Anne." "Would you mind if I call you Ann instead? It’s nice to meet you though," said Kuro. "Oh, that's fine, It's nice to meet you too... um sorry I didn't catch your name." Anne said. "Nice to meet you, too," said Kida. "Oh, hi, and you name is? I'm Annelise feel free to call me what you want, except Lise, it brings back sad memories," Annelise said. "I’m Kuro Hono, the shape-shifter." Kida smiled. "My name is Kida.” "And what are you?" asked Kuro. "Oh, cool. I'm an angel" Annelise replied. "Hi Kida." Kuro nodded. "An angel, I know that form." He jumped into the air and transformed into an angel. "Power of light, brightness, and beauty. Not my favorite, but hey to each there own," he said. “Yeah, so what do you like to do around here?" Anne asked curiously. "Anything specific that you two like to do around here?" Kida swished her tail, "Well, I'm a mermaid so I like to swim in the ocean. I can also control water somewhat," said Kida. "Wow, cool... you'll find me in the library reading a book, in my room writing songs or stories or just flying around." Anne responded. "Very interesting. I like to swim most of the time," said Kida. "You’ll find me in the library reading in my room writing songs around singing or well just helping people out," he changed back into his human form, "and, well, I control a lot of things with every form I have. I am able to use and control the powers of that form and, well, I can use them in any form I have." A fire ball appeared in his hand. "Interesting," said Kida. "Yeah. So what’s your favorite band, Kida?" he asked Kida. "I don't...have a favorite," said Kida awkwardly. "Okay, which ones do you like?" he asked her. "What is a band?" she asked. "Oh, yeah, I’m sorry, forgot you live in the ocean. Well tell me what you think of this." He pulled out a guitar and started to play and sing a song called ‘Welcome To The Black Parade’ by ‘My Chemical Romance’ "What do you think? Did you like it?" he asked. Kida smiled as she clapped her hands. "I love it. It's wonderful. You are a really good singer," said Kida. "Thanks," he replied. "You really do have a great voice, probably better than me, though I wouldn't know no one but myself has ever heard me sing." Anne said. He started to play another song, this time it was called ‘Nobody’s Listening’ by ‘Linkin Park’. "I taught myself how to sing," said Kida. "That’s cool. I really like to sing, and I have written a few songs. Would you like to hear one of them?" he asked them. "Sure! And I taught myself how to sing too," Annelise said. "Of course," said Kida. "Okay, well, this one is I have bean working on its not done yet,” he said. After that, he began to sing a beautiful, yet depressing song. “What did you think?" he asked after finishing. "Wow, really good," Annelise said, she gulps, "Wanna hear a song I'm working on?" "Sure. Do you need an instrument or will you just go ocapella?" "Ocapella is fine, the song is unfinished though," Anne said and began to sing. “What do you think? It's called In My Heart (You'll Stay)." Kuro looked to her, “It’s good it kinda sounds like another one I’ve bean writing called missing you." "I like it. Songs are amazing. Very much so when you write your own," said Kida. "That’s cool I’ve only been writing song for about two years but, hey, I like to do it," said Kuro. "It's a very good thing to do," said Kida. "Writing songs and stories are my life." Anne said. "Wow. Swimming has been mine," said Kida. "Well truthfully, my family didn't care for me so I wrote stories and songs when there was no one to talk to, and that was most of the time." Annelise said. "Well now you have someone to talk to," said Kida. "Really? Thanks Kida!" Annelise said with smile. Kida smiled. "You’re welcome. We can be friends if you want," she said. "I'd like that, thanks." Annelise said. Wow, my first friend! Anne thought. Kuro smiled, put his guitar away, and pulled out a Japanese flute, starting to play it. A few seconds later, Kuro stopped. "So, I think it’s about time we got back. What do you two think?" he suggested. "Think about what?" Anne said. "Sorry I can space out sometimes." "I think so. But I very much so enjoyed this," said Kida.
