So I was talking to a friend on MSN this moring, I'm not going to name names because most of you probably know who they are ... and my aim here isn't to bash them. They really offeneded me and made me feel quite bad ... it's strange, I dont' usually feel like that over religious matters, but this just got to me for some reason.

How was your x-mas?

Them:
*thwonk* It's christmas, not x-mas

Them:
no allow-y the x

Me:
Well why would I say Christmas, when christ has nothing to do with it for me?

Them:
because that's what it's still about like it or not

Me:
It's not still like that for everybody. Christmas has become extrmely commercialized, and non-christians like my self see it as a time for family and things like that .... not christ.

Them:
regardless that's what it's about, deal with it

Me:
That's what it's about for you. It may have started out that way, but it has changed alot, and has turned into something completely different for alot of people.

Them:
don't care that's what it's about D:

Them:
non-christians just stole it D:

Me:
No, it was popularized and commercialized and non-christians adapted and bought into that aspect.

Them:
still stolen

Me:
It's fine that that's what it means for you, i'm not going to ridicule you or judge you because you celebrate it one way. And I would really appreciate it if you didn't ridicule me for what it means to me.

Them:
:/ it's still annoying that people use the infernal x

Me:
I find all the preachy Jesus stuff annoying, but I keep it to myself becuase I respect that they have different beliefs from me.

Them:
i'll refrain from saying what i want this time.

Me:
Say it, you've already managed to piss me off and offend me, you can't really do much more.

Them:
i feel that people who aren't christians simply shouldn't celebrate it

Them:
same how non-american's don't celebrate our national independence day

Me:
But non-christians don't celebrate the religious aspects of it. So really their not celebrating Christmas, they've made it into their own tradtions with their families and everything.

Them:
then call it something else if you want x.x;

Me:
I do, I call it x-mas ... which is why you started bitching at me in the first place.

Them:
because they still say christmas x.x;

Me:
It's a word, with as many meanings as there are people in the world. I don't understand why you think somebody has to be a christian to use the word Christmas.

Them:
because it's CHRISTmas D:

Them:
if you're not celebrating christ then it's just stupid to call it christmas

Me:
People use certain words because that's what is familiar to them and readily available in their vocabulary. What the word Christmas means to you, is not the same for what it means to me, or even another christian.

Them:
it's annoying i'm sorry it's like taking the lord's name in vain to me

Me:
So I can't say the word Christ, just because I dont' believe in it?

Them:
not saying you can't say it.

Me:
Then what's the problem?

Them:
it's just don't celebrate it if you're not celebrating him.

Them:
it's taking something holy and making it commonplace.

Me:
You clearly haven't listened to anything I've said this entire time. When your ready to stop being so judgemental and stubborn, feel free to talk to me.

Them:
sorry but that's how i feel

Them:
i said i didn't want to say it in the first place

Them:
and you told me to say it anyway
