Prologue
It was a cool night, the stars were shining brightly over a small forest clearing. The only sounds that could be heard from the clearing was the soft breathing of two shadowy figures. The two forms were asleep in a large hollow under some ferns that provided excellent protection from the elements. The larger of the two shadowy forms jerked it's head up and opened it's light auburn colored eyes. Panting slightly as if it were frightened it shock it's large wide head and walked silently out of the hollow. The starlight in the clearing exposed the shadowy form as a large, long legged male cat. In the starlight the tom's long shaggy fur was turned to a dusky silver color.
In the bright starlight the tom's long legs, brood shoulders, muscular chest and back gave him the appearance of a creature from another world. He padded over to the middle of the clearing and sat down wrapping his long bushy tail over his paws to keep them warm in the frosty night air. Then he turned his gaze to the bright night sky. He sat there watching the stars until he heard his companion shift sightly in the hollow. He turned away from the night sky and padded silently over to the hollow. Before he entered the hollow he turned his eyes to the night sky one more time then entered. He padded over to his companion, curled up next to it and feel into a deep dreamless sleep.
