The recent documentary called The Dark Ages was terrible. I nearly gave it a rant, but was too depressed to go on. It was not only wildly inaccurate, but had a creepy modern political bias. Basically, the subtext was those early medieval people were miserable because they were weak and lazy. I wanted to slap the presenter. They were not lazy and certainly did not sit around all winter in the dark with nothing to do but drink. There were always things to do. Animals and children to feed and care for, endless wool to spin, utensils to carve, baskets to make, leather to work, and clothes and equipment needing mending. There were no vacations and the work was never done. **** you presenter, with your air of privilege. How much time do you spend doing nothing? Watching TV? On vacation? Eating out? Doing fun stuff alone or with your family perhaps?
