“Uuurrrgh” I yawned, stretching on my couch. The morning was long and hard, but things had been looking up recently. The vampires had calmed down since I took out the queen and were now blending into society. Well, most of them, some were still doing what the used to do: draining innocent people. The attacks were few and far between, but still enough to get me thinking about destroying them. But for now, I’ll just sit back and relax.
Cassie walked out of her room, muttering “Morning.” in a sleepy fashion. We’d grown pretty close the past while. I taught her to shoot like a demon and some of the basics to hand to hand fighting. She was nearly as deadly as I was now. Her brute strength from lycanthropy and new skills made her a warrior to be reckoned with, and also a good ally.
As I kicked my feet onto the edge of the couch, she plopped down on them. I just stared at her, almost saying “And what do you think you’re doing?” She smiled widely at me and I did the same. We were freaks.
“So what are you doing today?” I asked, picking up the remote and flipping through stations.
“I don’t know, I don’t like to do much on my birthday.” she commented, looking hypnotized by the blur of channels. Right, birthday…BIRTHDAY!? I jumped up, sending Cassie off the couch. She laughed slightly, saying “Wow, this must be your favorite show.”
“Uh…I’ll be right back.” I said, running to the garage. I jumped on the Fenrir and went to speed off when she did the same. “I gotta go!” I said to her, stopping the bike.
“So, I want to come with you.” she said smiling. Before I could reply, she said “It IS my birthday you know?” I couldn’t stop her from following me now. I decided to drive to the Nakakura’s house.
When we pulled up, they had just arrived at their house from taking the dog for a walk. The little scamp ran up to me and licked my hand. As we walked inside we started talking about the usual stuff: alchemy, the dog, each other, gold, alchemy, food, alchemy, and shopping. That’s when I realized it had gotten late, and had just blown Cassie’s birthday.
“Sorry guys I gotta go and I’ll talk to you later BYE!” I shouted, flying out of the house. I sped off into the city. I looked at all the stores I passed, nothing seemed to be good.
“It’s not nice to leave a lady behind.”
“WHAAAA!!!!” I didn’t notice Cassie had leapt on and nearly crashed into some trashcans. “Warn me when you do that!”
“Sor-ry” she said sarcastically. I was just mad because I could have hurt her. I saw a jewelry store and slid in front of it, parking the bike nicely. “Jewelry, buying something for that special someone?” Cassie said playfully, nudging my arm. I replied with a wide smile as we walked inside.
I walked up to the counter and was searching through the front, looking for something that just said “Cassie”. It was all crap. Finally, I saw one thing that fit her perfectly. It was a necklace that had a wolf’s head hanging off of it. It was a silver color, but I knew it was just the color and not the actual pendant itself. I reached for the gold in my pocket when I heard “Nobody move!”
As I turned my head, I saw three men with ski masks on, all three brandishing some sort of firearm. One was moderate size, one was skinny, and one was fat as all hell. I thought about putting my armor on, but I couldn’t in this group of people. I reached for my pistols but realized I had left in such a rush, I hadn’t grabbed them. So I just had my fists to rely on.
“Everybody down on the floor!” one shouted, aiming his gun around. As he aimed at me, my foot caught him in the jaw and send him so high he almost touched the ceiling. The skinny guy took a shot at me, but I had stuffed my right finger into the barrel of his gun, causing it to backfire and knock him on his a**. I pulled my right arm back and smashed it into the fat one’s stomach. It did nothing, he was just too fat. Soon I was seized in a bear hug and having the life squeezed out of me. The other two stood up and pulled out knifes. Things just didn’t seem to go my way today.
That’s when Cassie lunged forward and ripped her claws across the fat one’s head from behind, tearing off his ski mask. I kicked the other two in the head when I was released, then did a handstand and sweep kicked the fat one in the leg, taking the giant down. I saw his face, and he was the same one that kidnapped Miome a while ago.
“This just keeps getting better and better.” I said, giving one of the smaller one’s a dropkick. As I turned, one of them swung his knife and sliced through the right sleeve of my coat. I pulled my arm back to see if there was damage, but there wasn’t any.
“How does it feel to be slice punk!” he shouted.
“Look at your blade.” was all I replied. When he looked at his blade, the sharp part had curved up from damage. I spun around and belted him in the face with the back of my right hand, a few teeth flying through the air. I threw the two smaller guys into the corner and Cassie smashed the big guy into them, knocking them out. I transmuted a strong tetherball pole and a nice hard wire around their legs before dragging them into the air. I batted them around for a minute then let them hang unconscious. Of coarse, the cops would be here soon.
“Thank you two so much!” the clerk said graciously. Though the store was nicely trashed, no one was hurt. Cassie strolled outside while I talked to the nice young lady. “How can I ever repay you?”
“How about you give me that necklace for ten percent off?” I asked nicely.
“Ten percent? Here, just take it!” She handed the necklace to me, and I pocketed it. I pulled out some gold and flung an even amount to everyone inside, then gave the clerk and nice lump sum as a tip.
“Go home, take a bath, and relax.” I said to everyone, “You’ve all had a rough day.”
“Who are you?” one man asked. How should I respond? Zero had a name for himself, but not Mike? What would I be known as? Then it came to me.
“Call me the DFA, a DarkFire Alchemist.” and with that said, Cassie and I hopped on the bike and began to head home.
“So what did you get?” she asked on our way home.
“None of your business.” I replied. She dug her claws into my side and I nearly crashed the bike. I decided that if she wanted to play that way, we were gonna play. I started braking with the front wheel, causing the back end to go airborne for a few seconds. I did the same turning and swept her into oncoming traffic. Finally I could feel she was scared enough and headed home again.
We were a few miles from the residential district when I heard a motor approaching fast from behind us. I glanced over my shoulder and saw a van barreling after us, the three crooks we had taken down inside. I went faster, but realized I couldn’t let them know where I lived. So I let them pull up beside me and waved at them. They had no weapons, so what could they possibly do? Then I figured it out.
The rammed into us, nearly pushing me into a street lamp. I told Cassie to hold on and began to weave around them and onto the sidewalk. Sure enough, they smashed into me again, this time the side of my bike created sparks on the wall.
“Hold on tight.” I said to Cassie, who proceeded to wrap her arms around my chest. I leaned hard to the left and pressed a button on the bike to expand the front like wings. They hit the ground and set us spinning into the air, and landed right on top of the van. They went to drive under and over pass, so I kicked the bike off onto the ground and leaped onto the overpass with Cassie. We both sprang forward and landed back on the van.
“Shotgun!” I shouted as I smashed my fist through the roof above the passenger. I grabbed the seat belt and pulled it out as far as it could go. I grabbed it and swung around the opposite side, smashing my feet through the driver’s window. I didn’t have enough speed to get inside, so I leaped back onto the roof and clapped my hands. When I brought them down onto the van, I made the rubber in the wheels wear off and sent the van skidding across the street as they exploded. Cassie had smashed into the back of the van. I went to help her when she flew out of it. I caught her leg and instinctively threw her back in before leaping down.
The fat guy was in the back, and he looked real angry. “Hey Chubs,” I said waving, “it’s been awhile. All of what, ten minutes?” He didn’t respond, just leapt at me. Of coarse, he was stupid, so he went flying out the end of the van and rolling across the ground. I looked at Cassie and we nodded, knowing what the other was thinking. We approached the back of the seats and caught the two guys by surprise.
I kicked the recliner button on the seat and made the driver fall all the way back. I grabbed the wheel and turned right before he grabbed my face. I spun with his hand and smashed my right hand into a very sensitive area, making him howl like a dog. Cassie instead moved the passenger’s seat forward so far that he was stuck between the dashboard and the chair before kicking on the back of his seat. I let the seat go back after Cassie bailed. I on the other hand jumped back onto the roof and got to the front of the car.
“Have a nice swim boys.” I said before swinging my right arm into the front of the car, setting off both airbags. As I ran off the roof and onto the ground, they drove straight into a lake that a cop was at pulling over someone for speeding. As Cassie walked up to me the Fenrir did too. We jumped back on and drove home, laughing all the way.
As I parked the bike Cassie walked inside. I laughed and walked through the door, just catching her saying “Well that was one hell of a way to spend a birthday.” I laughed.
“Yeah, sorry about that.” I said scratching the back of my head.
“No, don’t be,” she said walking up to me, “it’s always fun when I’m with you.” I blushed without knowing it.
Though maybe I did, because when I tried to say “Well, here’s your gift.”, it came out all stuttered. I handed her the box with the necklace in it. When she opened it, she stood there stunned for a minute. “If you don’t like it I could turn it into something,” I said, beginning to ramble out of nervousness, “I mean it is steel and steel can become a lot of things. Maybe a small figure of a wolf, or something else per-” when I turned back to her she was right up against me and softly kissed me on the lips. I was stunned so much I was frozen solid.
“I love it…thanks.” she said softly. I looked at her, and she was just so beautiful at that moment. Everything inside me screamed “Kiss her! Kiss her you fool!” and I couldn’t help but to listen. I kissed her, and she didn’t push me away. That’s when I felt my heart begin pulsating with a feeling I hadn’t really felt before. I thought it could be love, but with my heart, it was fake…or, could it be she was the one? We embraced for a few minutes before Roxas suddenly burst through the door, shattering the moment like a glass bottle thrown against the side of a bar.
“So how are we all doing!” he shouted. That’s when he noticed we were both red in the face and sweating bullets. “Is everything alright?”
“FINE!” I answered immediately, “Just perfectly fine!” Cassie walked into her room without a word.
As Roxas walked past me, he stopped and said “Too bad she doesn’t have a Nobody, she’s a cute one.” I whipped around to say something, but he had already walked off laughing. I smiled. The gleam of the pendant caught my eye. I grabbed it and went to her room.
I knocked gently. “Hey,” I said opening the door, “you left your pen-” I froze because I saw she was in her underwear and immediately slammed the door. I was panting furiously because of the sheer fear that she would pummel me. Suddenly a hand grasped my shoulder and I leapt so high I hit the ceiling with my head. As I shook it off, I noticed I was being dragged into Cassie’s room. I went to reach for the doorway, but the door closed just in front of my hand. I was so dead.
As I sat there quietly saying I was sorry over and over, Cassie started to talk to me. “Mike, you’re part vampire…right?”
“Yeah.” I muttered between sorry’s.
“Well…you know I’m a werewolf, so if we hooked up,” my attention switched instantly, “it would just be weird…”
I laughed slightly. “Cassie…I have one question for you.” I said without looking at her. “Do you like me?” There was a long silence.
“Yes.” I smiled.
“Well then, I guess we should get together.” I looked over at her and saw her smiling. “But, it’s late, so we’ll talk later.”
“Alright.”
“Goodnight Cassie, and Happy Birthday.” I said, leaving the necklace on her bed.
“Night.” and I closed the door. As I walked to the couch and plopped down on it, I looked at my life. Missing one arm, no mother, vampire, half human and elf, DarkFire alchemy, all the bad things. Then there were my friends, my adventures, my home, and now my love. It looked as if the world was all going for me suddenly, and I closed my eyes contently. That last thought in my mind was when I would kiss her again.

The cold silence of space only punctuates the feeling of death that emanates from this virtuously lifeless planet.
Only one thing is alive and well here...evil. And it must be destroyed, decimated, exterminated.
But first, it must be found...
