Friday night, and nothing to do. I could call my friends, but they would want to go somewhere, and being home alone for awhile, I guess it’s not such a great idea to go all over the place. I decide to grab all my embroidery string and make a bracelet or two. I start my “xoxo” pattern attached to my clipboard. The weaving of my fingers looks like a graceful dance, and I’m hypnotized by the exquisite colors. The order in which to tie the strings sinks into my head, and I continue this bracelet until it’s finished.
I hadn’t realized that it had been hours since I started. It’s eight o’ clock and the sun had already disappeared behind the trees beyond the horizon. I walk over to the kitchen and get a cup from the cupboard, filling it with water from the nearby sink, and I’m startled as the doorbell rings. Who would be here at this time of night? At any rate, who would know someone’s here?
I look out the window but I don’t pay attention, and carelessly open the door. The most gorgeous boy looks up at me, and I’m in a daze.
“Hi there, um…”
“Oh, Jasmine,” I reply.
“Jasmine, what a lovely name.”
“Thank you, um…”
“Please, call me Sky if you wish.”
“Well Sky, um, did you need anything?” He stares into my eyes for a few seconds, and I force my eyes to wander.
“Oh! Yes, sorry. I was wondering if I could use your phone,” he finally asks.
“Yeah, sure, come on in.” He comes into the hallway staring blankly at the trophy case. I had him the phone and he presses the buttons in such an odd combination. I listen to his end fo the conversation from the other room.
“Hello… Hey Erik… Yeah, I need a ride home… Yeah can you come get me?… Don’t say that! She was generous enough to help me… Mhm… I’ll see you in a minute.”
“Are they coming to get you?” I ask, imensely curious.
“Yes, they are. Thank you so much.”
“Sure, no problem.” I look him in the eye and get extremely nervous. He could tell, and a minor smile spread across his face.
“What school do you go to?” he asks.
“Oh, I’m going to Joppatowne High next year. I’m not all that excited though.”
“I see,” he responds, “I’m going there too. It seems like a descent school, but I’m not that proud of it.”
“Yeah. Have I ever seen you before? Maybe in middle school?”
“Maybe not, but I’ve seen you. You don’t seem to hang out with many people.”
“Yeah, well the people I hang out with aren’t exactly ‘friends,’ but I do have a couple of friends that go to a different school. They live around here.”
“I see. One question, nothing to be all that afraid of, but… what is your middle name?”
“Quianna… a lot of people call me Jazzy, but never by my middle name.” Why would he want to know my middle name?
“That is an exquisite name there.”
“Thank you.” I smile, and that’s a bad thing, in my case. It’s only showing him more and more that I think he’s, different, in a good way of course, than other guys. I hear a honk ourside, and notice his adorable expression fade, as if something bad were to happen.
“I guess that’s for me,” he said, “but I was wondering… would you… care to join me at the park to morrow? Fresh air seems like a good idea for you besides staying home all day.”
“Yes… I’ll go with you. It does sound like a good idea.”
“Great… See you tomorrow, Quianna.” I wave at him as he walks over to his car. He talks with the person for a minute, and they drive off leaving nothing behind, but a memory of Sky’s gorgeous brown hair and his voice. Although, he looked extremely familiar, as if I’d known him for the longest time. On the other hand, he feels like a complete stranger. With my insanity revealed, I couldn’t help but go with him tomorrow. No one else has to know.
