Common Sense

Your plan today was to relax by the poolside and possibly get a nice tan. Your plan, however, didn’t include babysitting Axel, who was babysitting Demyx, and why, you didn’t want to know.

And it definitely didn’t include them bringing bathing suits and towels and wanting to hang around.

But, as was such the case, here you were, sitting on the pool ladder, supervising Demyx swim in the water for fear of him accidentally drowning. Which would be pretty scary, seeing as how he controls water, but we all know Demyx. Anything can happen. And Axel was…somewhere.

“Axel…” you started, getting a whiff of smoke.

“Yeah?” was the simple, nonchalant reply.

“Are you…burning something?”

“…no.” You turned, shifting in your spot on the ladder so you could see almost behind you, only to spot Axel near the stairs of the deck, hand hovering over an enflamed tiki torch that was tied to the deck. Did I mention it was engulfed in flames?

“AXEL!”

“Don’t worry, Name!” You heard Demyx declare from somewhere next to you. “I’ll put it out!”

Axel’s jade eyes widened comically. “No Demyx, wait–” but before he could protest any further, a small, mini-waterfall cascaded down over him, effectively putting the fire out and drenching the skinny man completely. His flaring red, spiky hair now drooped and was plastered to his head, neck, and shoulders.

“See, Name? No worries,” Demyx stated happily, grinning widely. You turned your head towards him and smiled, trying not to laugh hysterically at a fuming and very irate Axel.

“Thank you, Demmy; that was very thoughtful of you.”

“Thoughtful?” Axel snapped. You turned your attention back to him, gazing at him once more, a smirk gracing your features.

“I don’t know what a pyro like you was doing so close to a pool in the first place, Mr. Flurry of Dancing Flames, so it’s your own fault you’re wet.”

“Yeah,” Demyx piped in, aqua eyes filled with suppressed laughter. “And you call ME stupid. I mean, its only common sense that fire and water don’t mix. Like, DUH.”
