WARNING! This journal entry is not for the faint hearted, nor those who love chocolate pudding. This journal entry entails the common yet painful surgical process that most of us have already or will suffer, extraction of wisdom teeth.
No no, it wasn’t me, but my brother. Though I had my teeth extracted on three separate occasions, so I shared in my brother’s pain, remembering the gauze, anesthesia and over-indulgence in pudding, jello and spagetti-o’s. With that experience, and my desire to become a medical doctor, my mother saw it fit to leave his care in my capable hands. Though, I suspect there is another reason why I was able to tend to him…my brother and I share something that few people attain in a lifetime, a special bond that allows communication without the need to speak, or even so much as mutter a syllable. Even when we were young we had this ability.
It was horrible to see him like this, still feeling the effects of the anesthesia, he was in another world, a world of misery and pain. I knew, all he wanted was some food and rest, but after surgery, procedures must be taken to ensure there would be no clotting, nor swelling.
I offered a collection of my favorite films to watch. And while he watched Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, and V for Vendetta, and right now, Pan’s Labyrinth, I kept watch, incase he needed anything, and did calculus homework. Not fun. Well, it was fun to watch my favorite films again, but calculus…not fun…not fun at all. God I hate Series!
It was strange though…seeing him like this…pulling out the blood, saliva and chocolate pudding soaked gauzes (see I told ya it was disgusting), checking his wounds for further bleeding, and seeing dried blood coating his tongue, gums and teeth, I could taste blood in my mouth and feel the pain all over again. In fact, I swear to God I can feel swelling in the back of my mouth. I. AM. NOT. KIDDING.
But as of this evening, he is back to his normal self, making jokes and enjoying the sugar rush of pudding and applesauce, and…what else can I say? He’s well and hopefully he won’t have to have molars pulled out or have reconstructed jaw surgery. And hopefully you won’t either!
Oh yeah, why did I do this? Well aside from the fact that he was my brother…all three times…he did the same thing…
