"In the beginning of the world, the weregirls, who were magical animals, lived on earth, but the earth was cold and unfreindly, because there was no sun in the sky to warm it up. The weregirls were miserable from the cold, so they all got together, raised their muzzles toward the sky like wolves do, and howled like the wolves. Out of the warmth of there breath came a fiery ball, the sun, witch soared up into the sky. "So the sky warmed up the earth for the first time. The weregirls stopped shivering from the cold, and were so happy and joyful, they ran around yelping and snapping each other. like pretty pups. "Then everything on earth became green an fruitful, and lots of other breeds were born. Then one breed of evil creatures arose. They slaughtered other creatures and ate them, polluted the air and knocked down the sacred trees that the weregirls worshiped. They were really trying to force the weregirls off the planet. But then whole breath of life rose against the breed of evil creatures, and called this supreme goddess Hopi, whose name means 'the powerful one.' Hopi heard life's complaint, and bounced down from her throne in heaven to help rescue the weregirls. With Hopi's help they pummeled the breed, and locked them up inside the ridges and peaks of the earths mountain ranges. Then Hopi figured she should create some creatures who would always be in alliance with the weregirls. She thought about what they should be like and came up with humans-a peaceful and loving species. The weregirls were happy, and the humans were happy. Those were the happiest days of earth. "They wanted to have fun after doing such a good for earth, so they got together again and put there muzzles together, and blew out the moon, witch they wanted to keep as a toy. The moon cooled off quickly, and the weregirls played ball with it. They bounced the moon with there noses, kicked it fore and hind paws, dribbled it.... They've been playing ball with the moon ever since. "The weregirls still play with the moon while the sun's up so when it gets dark they can share the moon with everyone."
