So I finally splurged a little and bought some manga that I have been looking at for a while. I love checking out new manga for my friends and being a sort of pioneer... So, here is a review on what I bought!
Hotel Africa~ Volume One
Art *****
Story **** 1/2
So, Hotel Africa follows the story of Elvis, an African guy, living with his friends in the big city. They are pretty poor, and come from very different backgrounds, but they still stick together. Elvis is the narrator, and most of the stories consist of his flashbacks from when he lived in Africa with his single mother and grandmother. The characters are all pretty cool: Elvis (in his flashbacks) is a four year old who watches so much TV that he has become slightly disenchanted to subjects such as murder and r**e, but he still retains his childhood innocence; his mother is a beautiful blonde woman with big ambition but a never ending sense of loneliness from when she lost Elvis' father. There are plenty of other quirky characters that come and go, but none of them are really shallow or unnecessary. Plus, the stunning manwah art style is breathtaking and keeps you in the story. Note that this is a drama, and you won't see a ton of epic battles or anything, but for an enchanting slice of life graphic novel, this is a must-read.
