I have decided to let the world of Gaia have a sneak-peak at my story. There are 40 and a half pages of computer print in total, this is just the first chapter. If you like it, PM me and I might send you a chapter or something. I might get it published, I don't think that any publishing company would take a fourteen year old author seriously. Enjoy! mrgreen (sorry about the no tabs!)
Chapter 1, Being Chased by Psychos and a Stranger
She tried to quiet her breathing and her rapidly beating heart. I shouldn’t have left, She thought if I hadn’t gone back this wouldn’t have happened. It had started as just a trip to the mall on a Friday night, nothing out of the ordinary. Brooke and her friends, and one’s older sister to drive, had gone shopping for the ‘Night Owl’ special that was too good to pass up. Unknown to her and her friends, they were being watched. Now she was alone and knew of the people stalking her. She’d gone back to buy something she’d forgotten, a necklace that she’d said she would get later. I was in the mall parking lot where she'd discovered them, there were at least four of them, maybe more. She’d hid only a second before they turned the corner, they were waiting for her now. Brooke was now more scared than when she was three, and back then it was a chased by a goose, which she thought was the scariest thing in the world back then. Now she knew better, being chased by four guys who had it in for her was worse than a goose by a long shot. She’d seen a gun in one of their hands and that had only added to her panic. Her friends were waiting by the car, waiting for her to get back so they could go home, she wondered if she ever would get home. She ran her hands through her sandy blonde hair. Her green eyes were wide, looking for an escape. Half of her wanted to make a run for it; the other half said they would leave. Then something she didn’t expect happened, all four of her pursuers turned around and were looking at someone. They didn’t seem happy to see who ever it was. The biggest one said, “Well, well if it isn’t that little bit a slime the boss wants dead. You got a lot a nerve coming here. We are not, not here to kill ya, but it would please the boss.” One of the smaller ones came forward and pulled out a knife, after putting away his gun that she saw wasn’t real. With that, she bolted. “There she is! Get her!” yelled the big one. She could hear footsteps of pursuit behind her, so she was running with all she had. She heard a grunt of pain behind her, which surprised her, but she didn’t dare look back. She heard another grunt, which sounded more like a squeal. Must be one of the smaller guys, She thought. Her stamina was running low and her legs were filled with acid, she needed to stop but couldn’t. That meant capture, which meant either pain, or death. She ducked in an alley and stopped, dead end. She ran the other way and heard grunt of triumph from a pursuer. This may not be a dead end, but he’s catching up, She thought. She could hear his footsteps, and maybe another pair, catching up. She figured out where she was and turned left towards the underground parking lot where her friends might still be. She found pillar 17 and square 23 and found it empty. Aw great, She thought miserably, I’m doomed. She kept running, toward the entrance to the mall and saw the ‘Sorry, We’re Closed’ sign. It was near midnight and tomorrow was a holiday; she couldn’t remember in her panic, but the mall was closed until 10 o’clock a.m. tomorrow. She was headed to the security booth, where she saw the police officer, dead asleep. Also, two of the thugs standing between her and safety, they both had awful bruises on their heads. The two guys that I heard fall, she thought, but who, or what did that? She stopped about thirty feet from them, tired and terrified. Her other pursuers hadn’t come yet. The two thugs with the bruises were looking past her at something out of her vision, puzzled, she turned around. There she saw the big thug’s way to her was blocked by some guy about her age. Whoever he was, the big guy was scared of him. “Idiots,” yelled the big thug, “get her!” The two bruised thugs raced towards her and she could really feel the exhaustion out doing her fear as she tried to run. The thugs weren’t in much better shape. They were wheezing like crazy as they doggedly ran after her. She was barely doing more than a jog now. Great, She thought miserably as they started to close the gap, I’m going to die. Then she heard a shriek of pain that could only come from the big guy. “I’m going to get you, ya measly twerp!” He yelled this was followed by a ‘thump’ and a groan. Her pursuers didn’t even slow down, but one was reaching out to grab her and his fingers weren’t very far from her hair. She waited for the yank, and it came. She screamed in pain, the idiot had grabbed just about every hair on her head and yanked really hard. She heard the other one speaking to someone, “You may have gotten us once but never again!” The bruised guy spat. His speaking was cut short by his squeal of pain. She couldn’t see what was going on but she suspected that the guy that she saw before was doing all of the beating up. She hadn’t gotten a good look at him. All she knew was that he was wearing a red hoodie and red and black shorts. Things got a nice bit scarier after that. Next thing she knew there was a knife at her neck and she was facing towards the guy. She saw the thug at his feet, bruised but alive. He didn’t give a second thought to him obviously; his hooded face was facing her captor. “What’re ya going do now?” her captor spat, “Come one step closer and she gets a nasty cut.” She could see him grinning, and she guessed that the guy’s eyes narrowed. He’s got to think of something, She thought, or I’m dead meat. He suddenly relaxed, stepped back and spread his arms in a what-ya-going-to-do-now-I’m-blocking-your-only-exit way. At this her captor looked around and found that he, the captor, had become the captured. The cops or someone will come and then I’m saved! The thought cheered her up, until she turned her head and saw the happy gleam in her captor’s eyes. “Well, I guess I underestimated you,” He said, “but if no one from my group gets back to HQ in about ten minutes they’ll send in reinforcements.” He was really grinning now. I am so dead, she thought; unless the Ninja boy comes up with something I’m screwed. The ‘Ninja boy’ however, looked calm as if he had this all planned out. She could see part of his face in the dim light. He had a smirk on his face that said “You have no idea what I’ve got planned, do you?” This made Mr. Over-confident get a bit ticked. “You got something planned kid? ‘Cuz I’d like to know,” He said. The ‘boy’ just smiled and pointed. The thug turned around to see a big snarling mutt looking dog standing right behind him. He let out a squeak of fright. The dog advanced, muscles tense, ready to strike. Mr. Once-over-confident dropped her and ran like he was being chased by a vicious wolf, and he was. The mutt was chasing him, barking all the way. When she got up and looked around the ‘Ninja boy’ had his back to her. He was watching the chase, snickering. She now had a minor headache from her hair being grabbed and also a few bruises from being thrown around. Other than that she was in good shape. She was wondering whether she should sneak away or to stick around. The snickering had stopped, and she noticed that he tensed up. He was wary now, no chance of sneaking away. She heard tires screech in protest of a sharp turn and remembered that at least ten minutes had past. Panic time. He zipped past and grabbed the sleeve of her jacket. She didn’t protest, though she was tired to the bone and wanted to stop she tried to keep up. He ran fast and was tugging her along; he didn’t seem to mind either. Tires screeched again, and now there were headlights behind them and they were getting brighter. He seemed to speed up, so did she. She figured that if he was scared, she had reason to be. He took a sudden turn to the left where a car couldn’t go, but he didn’t stop running. Another sharp left, a bullet whizzed behind her back and through the hallway they just exited. That got her adrenaline pumping at full speed. A sharp right and then he pulled her down behind some boxes. Even he was breathing heavy now. Footsteps were headed their way, they slowed at the boxes. “Hey you lumps! Keep moving we gutter finds them!” A voice said and the footsteps moved on. He relaxed so did she. Thank goodness they didn’t search, She thought gratefully. She opened her mouth to whisper, but he stopped her and pointed. She saw the shadow of someone standing watch. They obviously expected them to double back so they set up a guard. By the thug’s shadow you could tell he was tired. Probably one of the guys that was chasing me before, She thought, I’m just as tired as he is but I’ve got adrenaline on my side. He motioned to her for silence and then slipped past. She heard a dull ‘thwump’ and then a tug on her jacket. She followed carefully behind him, questions threatening to burst from her; who is this guy? Who’s the enemy? Why’s he protecting me? Why the secrecy? When are we going to get out of here? He stopped abruptly, and then he spoke for the first time that night; “Snap.” “That’s all you can say,” She whispered. “Yeah, there are five guards and an armored car blocking the only exit. What else would I say?” “Good point, but you never said anything before. I almost thought you were mute.” “Ha, ha, that’s very mature. But unless you come up with a genius idea to get us out of here we’re screwed.” “Hey, you’re the Ninja Boy here, that’s your job.” “Oh, you’re clever, now put that brain with the sarcastic comments to good use. We can’t wait around forever. They’ll find us. Besides, they have more guys than that. If I know them, and I do, they’ll call in reinforcements because of their leader’s impatience.” “The only thing I can come up with is you creating a suicidal distraction so I can get away.” “Um, one problem genius-ette, the point of this is to both get away safely or I’d have pushed you out there a while ago.” “I think I liked your silence better” “So do I.” The guards patrolled aimlessly. They all looked bored, one was leaning on a pillar casually, two others were playing tic-tac-toe in the dirt, another was dozing off on a wall and the last one was alert and tense because he was hiding his urge to doze off. They’re all pretty tired, She thought, which could be used to our advantage. He was scanning the place thoughtfully; a grin grew on his face. “Got an idea?” She whispered. “Yup, this is going to be fun.” He said. “All of them are tired.” “All the easier to carry out my plan” “What is this plan exactly?” “Prepare to be amazed.” She rolled her eyes, but watched the blockade while he ran off. Sooner than she thought, she could see him, sleeve over mouth and nose, dumping a packet of something. Following his example she covered he mouth and nose. The results were instantaneous; the guards closer to his hiding place fell over immediately. One went to go wake them, but also fell over, asleep. Soon all of the guards were snoozing peacefully. He stepped out of his hiding place and motioned for her to follow. She pointed at the car; he put his free hand on his cheek, feigned sleep, and then motioned the thumbs up. She sighed in relief, as well as you can with your sleeve over your face anyway, and followed him. Once they were out the exit, he paused and looked around suspiciously. “This is too easy,” he said, “they’d know better than just leaving a few guards. Something’s up, and I don’t like it.” “That wasn’t exactly easy for me, but you know them better. I say we get out of here before they are allowed to surprise us.” She said. “Too late for that,” he said, “They’re already here.” Two cloaked figures appeared seemingly from nowhere. They advanced slowly. He started to laugh. “Didn’t I take care of you both last week?” he said, “I’m disappointed in you guys. I was expecting someone more experienced.” This seemed to annoy them a nice bit, so they charged. He just waited till they were almost upon him then pulled off a crazy move that had them both on their backs, unconscious. “That was, um, weird,” she said. “All in a days work,” he said, “now let’s get moving.” She followed him through the empty parking lot, he may have been relaxed but she had a feeling that someone was watching. He either didn’t notice, didn’t care, or had something planned. She hoped it was just her imagination. Ahead she could see a car and it looked pretty nice too. “Um, did I mention that the sleeping powder doesn’t last very long?” he said. “No, you failed to mention that.” She said. “Run,” was all he said before taking off towards the car. She was right behind him. About fifty feet from the car they heard the squeal of tires and angry shouting. They both jumped in the car and in seconds he had it started up and going a good 60 mph. It then hit her that this was a McLaren F1. She’d seen it on one of her brother’s video games. “Um, just one question for now,” she said, “Do you have a driver’s license?” “Yes, I do,” he said, “for about a year. This may or may not help but I’ve played enough games on driving to know just about everything.” “One problem, in video games you’re supposed to crash.” “That is true for most...” The car was out of the parking lot and out on the road, but the black car was catching them. He was slowly increasing the cars speed, almost casually, edging out of their reach. He pulled a quick turn and was headed down a long straight road. “Ask your questions,” he said. “First, who are the crazy guys chasing us?” “They are called the Banchen Corps. Basically psychos with resources, they conduct crazy illegal experiments right under the government’s nose. Heck, some of them are in the government and nobody else suspects a thing.” “Nobody else?” “Except for me and some others, no one else even knows they exist.” “Second, why the heck are they after me?” “That is a very complicated subject. I don’t know much, just something about a ‘chosen holder’. I have no idea what that means.” “Okay, third, why the scary hoodie?” “What you mean is why I keep myself hidden. It’s because they don’t know who I am and don’t need to know.” “Shouldn’t I know?” “You will, when we get to the base.” “Wait, were did they go?” “You obviously missed them falling into a pit with spikes at the bottom. Looks like the boys know we’re here.”
Hope you liked it!
